I can't imagine they trade for an injured player without some thought of re-signing him. The question is always price tag and fit. This assumes we would even want to re-sign him.
Prior to his injury he was having a pathetic season in Boston. Playing at the level of a bad 4th liner.
About the player I think it important to take a three year snapshot along with age to assess his career arch. Lots of variables with this season's regression including injury and winning team finally hitting an iceberg. Power forward types are rare. Centre wing versatility an asset. Good age for peak performance range. Hard, physical and straight line play in compete areas of the ice value likely amplifies in playoff hockey.
I'm hopeful about the player. Less so about the management group.
