Trent Frederic

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Or you know they're letting it actually heal up fully so he's at his best for playoffs, instead of rushing him back and increasing his risk of re-aggravating it. As someone who works in the sports medicine field I always find some of the health related takes on here so bizarre.
You might be confusing me with someone else. I never questioned him not playing before playoffs. I questioned his injury and his effectiveness when he eventually starts at some point during playoffs. We've seen how debilitating a high ankle sprain is.

I question how effective he will be and the high cost we paid for retention for a complete question mark.

Hope I'm wrong and he is a force when he returns.

We've seen people play through high ankle sprains that weren't given time to heal and rehab properly. We haven't seen someone go through the actual appropriate healing timeline and rehab that Frederic is.

This and previous regimes left us completely lacking the trade assets to win a bidding war for Rantanen. I’m somewhat impressed that Bowman would even try, let alone apparently get close. We’ve been talking about Frederic as a smart option for months and the only question was if Boston was going to fall out of the playoff race and make him available. Calling Frederic some kind of “desperation” or fall-back position after failing to miraculously reel in Rantanen is seriously disingenuous.
Which is a good thing. Rantanen is now reaching the backside of his prime, has been very underwhelming away from MacKinnon albeit a small sample size and will paid as a franchise player through his late 30s. This was a bullet dodged by Oilers management tbh.

In terms of Frederic, if he performs well in the playoffs even as just a rental that's well worth a mid to late 2nd rounder plus filler stuff.
As with all the Oilers acquisitions, they will be judged on how they perform in the playoffs.

If Frederic plays well in the playoffs, he has to be signed. 2nd x 3rd just for the player to walk is bad asset management.

There are a lot of teams who give up far more than that for a pure rental every single trade deadline. Are you guys living under a rock?
there are a lot of posters complaining about what we gave up for a rental player who would be complaining about us not getting a rental if we did nothing.

I dont think many GMs would target an injured player (weeks away) and give up this much. Hopefully it turns out but Bowman has done enough questionable moves to be fireable if the playoffs dont go right.

Couldve spent the assets on a RD or maybe even a goalie.

So he's multiple weeks away?

Wow.
It does seem like the Oilers are into shit sandwich false leading messaging. hey we got this guy and we gave up these assets and he'll be playing in a week or two. Wait no he won't, still two weeks away, still two weeks away, still two weeks away... Like I said a few weeks ago its a moving target. Like a Carrot on a string...

Oh well at least we got Walman but Jones has been nothing. Not exactly a rooting tootin TDL.

Is there even a need for Frederick with Kane coming back as well? I feel like this trade was not really necessary... especially given that he is still injured. Lets hope that Frederick has a strong playoffs and re-signs... or else this trade will look awful.

You can have grit on multiple lines. Look at Florida they have 3 guys who can play anywhere in their lineup and cause issues for any team. You can't completely rely on Kane to bring all the grit when he hasn't played all year.

At least last night we found out Frederic is even alive or in Edmonton. Unless AI. ;)

Strange that theres so little news of when he's ready other than it being a continuing two week moving target. In short the synopsis was already way wrong and the amount of time till he was healthy is much longer than what was originally mentioned.

Given how little Frederic is going to play here this season seems like we gave up a lot to get him. If he ends up being helpful in playoffs I guess is the whole gambit.
The information that the injury might be serious was out there. The first tweet we saw that day from Chris Johnston (I think) said he likely was out for the remainder of the regular season. There was a contradictory one that came out a bit later that day that was saying he’d only be out two weeks and that was the one people stuck to. Starting to look like the first one was right.
