Value of: Trent Frederic on July 1

People do realize in like 2 years 3rd liners will cost 5-6 mill, right ?

Dude hasn't been that good this year, but a team paying around that is likely to happen unless he goes for a 1/2 year deal betting on himself and then getting 6+
Perhaps Freddie gets it together. But history suggests you'll be disappointed.

Guys with his skill set need to bring it consistently. If they do, they can be extremely valuable. If they don't, they can be extremely frustrating.

Freddie can score and be physical. Unfortunately he can also float with the best of them.

Pretty big difference between taking a chance on somebody for 5-6m because of a cap increase, and handing out a 7 year deal to a player having a bad follow-up season.

they will not cost 5-6M. The cap increase will mostly still go to the top players. Oilers in particular will be filling out their bottom 6 with league min\ELC contracts after paying up for McDavid, Bouchard and a goalie

I could see him going to FLA to play with his childhood friend Matthew Tkachuk. FLA plays a style of hockey to that will pull out the best of him. When he first broke in the NHL, he would stir the pot. He can go to FLA for a few years, maybe win a cup and also build his value back up. Something in the 2yr/$3.5 million range makes sense to me.
He told Morning Bru podcast he despises Matthew Tkachuk.

Not that it matters, he will follow the $$.

When you face each other for multiple years in a rivalry, there is going to be some bad blood. Brad Marchand got sucker punched by Sam Bennett.......and he now plays on a line with him and their buddy buddy.

We sure were (friends). I grew up with him since I was probably five. But yeah, it's probably been different the last couple of years. But yeah, we're family friends. It's business. I don't really care. Maybe when our careers are over, we can have a reconciliation. But right now, I can't stand him.

I want to say $3.5M with term...but i think we're heading into a brave new world in terms of cap stupidity, so it's hard to even really envision how ludicrous his contract might get if there's a real "bidding war" for one of the only big, youngish for a UFA Centers out there (even if he's really more of a winger and temporary desperation band-aid center). I think the term is going to be the component where it potentially gets really goofy, more so than the $$$ AAV. I don't see anyone giving him more than $4.5M max per year...but i could absolutely see the bidding war shifting to how much term various teams are willing to lay out for him.

Lucic v 2.0

He's not completely old, broken down, and can't skate anymore though. So...while i don't dispute the idea that it'll probably end up being a very regrettable contract, especially if he's signed to play Center for someone...i don't really see the rest of the parallels. He's also clearly not a guy like Lucic who was arguably the best power forward in the game at one point. Frederic is far more of a clearly bottom-6 scorer...still more or less in the late stages of his prime. Not clearly past it like Lucic was.
