Looks like fire sale in Philly today. What is the cost of Sanheim? Lots of teams would be lining up for him.
Fire sale? 1 player traded…
Not too many teams would line up to get Sanheim bc of his contract. He stays and plays ld with York and Andrae.

The Oilers should be interested if Sanheim is available. I think there would be some hesitancy due to his contract length, but he would fill out the Oilers defense core nicely, so I hope Holland is kicking tires.

It wouldn't surprise me if he isn't available. As an Oiler fan, for Philly fans' sake, I hope they keep a couple of good veterans around for the rebuild. You can't just throw only propsects out there and expect them to succeed.

Sanheim is 27, and his contract runs 7 more years, so he's 34 at the end. I'd expect that he'd be in his prime for most of this contract.

I do agree that you need some stabilizing forces during a rebuild.

During a rebuild you need veterans but they should not be the big salaries of the team.
Guys like Laughton at 3 mil, even Seeler getting better at 30.
Plus Hart already 5 seasons in, Farabee 4, Frost 4, Tippett 4.
They can sign some better version of Justin Braun or JVR.

Thing with Edm is that Philly would want a C or D back and Bouchard is too much and Broberg too little. What you got at C?

Why does it matter if they are big salaries or not? Your young guys are often not taking the big salary spots, so if you have a high end shutdown defenseman making a lot of money, keep him around as long as you feel he will be a good mentor for the young guys.

That said, I hope Philly does decide to trade him. He's exactly what the Oilers need on the blueline.

The Oilers have picks to trade mostly. We don't have a C that's available - our centre depth is McDavid-Draisaitl-Nuge (when he isn't playing wing)-McLeod-Holloway. None of the top three are going anywhere, and McLeod and Holloway are needed for their cost certainty. At the prospect level, we don't have anyone with even the value of Broberg, so if Broberg is too little, then we won't have a C that you like either.

I think they keep him for this year. Let him and York be their top 2 LHD and see how Zamula and Andrea develop this year. If 1 steps up like York did this year, you can move Sanheim next year.

Dumping DeAngelo more likely and that’s not saying a lot
I could see Briere trading or buying out DeAngelo since it didn’t seem like Torts wanted him in the lineup at the end of the season.

DeAngelo is not the type of player to rebuild a team around either, I’m predicting he’s out one way or another.

Might want to hang onto Sanheim since he’s the best defenseman on the team.
