Travis Moen.

If Moen was playing 20% like Prust... everybody would be happy. We dont want goals from him,we don't want him to fight every games. Just throw some hits and play with intensity.

Thats all:(

Hits and grinding are not 100% of his game, he gets used in defensive situations and he has been solid in that way, as well using the cycle in the offensive zone and killing penalities. People saying he is useless either have no clue about hockey or hate him because of his cap hit.

Well hopefully this healthy scratch will wake him up for the playoffs, which is where we need him most and where he usually excels!

Scoring one goal in a game-7 blowout against Pittsburgh is not enough to say he excels in the playoffs. That performance already dates back from 6 years now. Nothing happened since.

Why do you think Armstrong sucks? I'm genuinely curious. Before his injury, he was getting consistent scoring opportunities and even displayed some solid hands. He was winning board battles and killed penalties as well.

When regarding him as a fourth liner, what's not to like?

can't score, can't hit, can't fight, can't agitate, skate slower than Laraque, etc.....

Come on....he does agitate. You should see my reactions when i watch him play. :sarcasm: ok bad joke. Kidding aside putting in armstrong over moen is a clear message to moen. Armstrong might not be able to keep up but he does put in an honest effort.

Cant say that about moen right now.

Scoring isn't his game! Come on man, you can't base your arguments off things that aren't part of his core playing style! You have to think about what he is before you post. He is a fourth liner, and he was a damn fine one last season.

In the playoffs, he killed penalties like a monster, was a hitting machine, was chippy and won his battles. The perfect fourth liner in the playoffs. I just hope he can match that this season. I feel like some people don't have a memory that goes back further than a couple of months.

He is a fourth liner, he isn't being paid to score goals. He is second on the team in hits. He has obviously proven that he can fight. I love how you list a bunch of things that either don't apply to him or are just flat out wrong and you ignore what he has been so good at the past few seasons, except maybe this season, which are the things I mentioned in the post you responded to.

Again, I feel like people want to find excuses to whine and complain, and don't even watch the players they whine about. So frustrating.

Let's hope tonight's benching will get this guy thinking...it should get him motivated when he does get back in there...

He has no one to blame but himself...he has been brutal...:shakehead

But if you use your eyes you can see that his hitting hasn't exactly been affecting much of anything. It's a pretty useless stat in and of itself.

they can cherry pick stats all they want, how many times have you seen our smaller guys or our defenders getting run over by the other team and he just floats in there and does nothing ? see, that's not a stat, but it happens every game. I find it hard to believe players like gallagher and eller are putting their noses where it hurts and this farmer blob just sits at the end of the bus like a careless passenger. I find it hard to believe gallagher is going more often in front of the net, I find it hard to believe that he sacrifices less to block shots, even on the PK, than most of our players. disgraceful lack of investment (mental/physical) towards the team, zero determination. anybody's work ethic > travis moen's. Keep in mind he's not crosby, he's supposed to be and energy player.

can someone Define travis moen's role and explain how he fulfills it. please.

All the points you bring to back him up are very, very subjective. He got his job done in the 2010 playoffs, like a whole lot of our players. In 2011, I didn't notice him actually messing with Boston all that much. He played his role. Nothing less.

To say he's a "PLAYOFFS MONSTER OMGZZZ" is definitely pushing it. He played his game in the past. He is not anymore. Obviously I'm not asking him to score goals/points. I'm just asking him to get in dirty areas and provide ENERGY to the players, just like any energy player is supposed to do.

And in what world should his history influence how useful he's going to be in those upcoming playoffs? He has been MIA all year long. He let Prust fight Frazer McLaren with one shoulder. How much more obvious does it have to be for people to accept the fact that he's been a disgrace this season? Really...

And don't come up and tell me "Not all bottom line players have to be crash and bang ala Gabriel Dumont and Ryan White". Don't even try. He got a healthy pay cheque last summer, he got 1.1M more than Jeff Halpern for the very reason that he has the ability to bring a disrupting/physical/gritty element to his game. This year, he forgot to bring that element. He forgot to win any board battle for that matter too.

So yeah. I'm not Armstrong's biggest fan, but if you have to dress a slow player with limited impact on the physicality of a game, limited offensive instincts, might as well bring the one who is popular in the lockerroom and who gets along pretty well with all of his teammates. Because I just can't imagine Moen gets it that easy with his teammates/a lot of the guys think highly of him after the **** he's been putting through all year.

He's a celebral 4th liner with no IceQ. How useful is that supposed to be in a team? :handclap:

Dude, when the heck did I say he's a "PLAYOFF MONSTER OMGZZZ"? All I said is that he "usually excels" in the playoffs, and that is a direct quote from myself. That is definitely not pushing it. Don't see why you're trying to paint me as a huge Moen fanboy, I flat-out said he hasn't been himself this season and hasn't benefited our team at all.

All I said was that I was happy that Moen was benched because we need him in the playoffs, where he tends to excel. Then you argued that he only scored one goal in the playoffs as if that is supposed to be a knock against him. We all know he hasn't performed well this season, and we are going to need him to play like he did last season. He has shown he can be an awesome payer for the Habs in the past, we need it again. What is there not to understand about that?

Also, not sure why you are saying that Moen has limited physicality when he is second on the team in hits. As for Armstrong, saying he has limited offense is a given for most fourth liners, but he has demonstrated a drive for the net, decent hands and has had many scoring opportunities this season. A step up from Moen at this point in time as far as I'm concerned.

wow man, are you real? And show me one of is hit this year....the guy suck and bring nothing that we need. And Armstrong is not the 2nd in hits. don't know why ECWHSWI said that. Prust, Moen, Eller, Halpern, White, Gallagher, Gionta are all ahead of him.......

strange case, he is a heart and soul type player but has played with neither this season

Never seen Moen with a heart and a soul.

Now he was usefull a few years ago but it was never about heart and soul. He was a good PK guy that played on a third line, a defensive player with some talent that Martin would use on the first two lines sometime when we needed size.

I think he got the message if you watch his interview on the team's website after learning he was sitting.

All the things Higgsbozon said of Moen are bang on. That's his game and it can be effective, and that this year he's just turned it off and accepted a contract, but not lived up to it.

I actually like Armstrong. Last night when the 4 th line had momentum it was him providing a lot of it. Prust looked a little tired and still banged up tbh.

If Darche was shown the door, Moen should be too, even with three more years to go on his contract. The guyis at the end of the road. Worst contract given by Bergevin so far.

Is there no chance he gets better or back to form? Is this something we've already decided and know for sure? When did we decide that? I missed that decision.

Also the pouting thing, is this something that is actually known or did someone on hfboards suggest it may be happening and everyone ran with it as fact?

My understanding is that there's a confusion between Moen and Armstrong in the last few posts. They are talking about Moen (since it's a Moen thread), while you are talking about Armstrong. Hence the confusion.
