Travis Green [Head Coach]

Underrated on this team is how badly the coach, GM and Asst GM and Asst Coach (Alfie) want to win a Cup. All four are huge gamers, all 4 played for the coach, all 4 with over 1000 NHL games, all 4 playoff warriors

I think the management and coaching staff want to win a Cup as bad as Brady does and that fuels the team.

In his introductory Press Conference Travis Green said he’s coaching “because I want to win a Cup” - 75 games later his team has a great chance. It’s happening faster than we realize.

Ottawa will shut out Toronto in their opening game on the road if they play - take that bet right now. It’s going to happen

I'll admit I was quite skeptical of Greens hire when announced in the off season. Basically didn't know much about him and there seemed like better and more experienced options out there.

Glad to say I've been proven very wrong. Staios and co. made the proper choice of a head coach for this team right now during the stage they are currently in. Seems to me like he and his coaching staff had the right approach/balance of correcting bad habits, focusing on a defence first buy in and preaching patience and discipline/controlling emotions within the core of players.

Easy to pick on others while they are down, but, I'd say we dodged a bullet by not hiring a Roy, Torts, McLellan style etc.

Yeah, seems like a nice balance between a hard-ass but doesn’t seem to cross the line like a Torts, etc.

In one posting after Green was terminated in Vancouver, I suggested Green could be a candidate for the head coach position in Ottawa. Not a single person agreed with me and there were a few who were very negative toward him. I was not a supporter of hiring him when we did as I wanted a more experienced and successful coach.

Green has earned his salary this season and got the team into the playoffs. I hope he continues to improve team and player performance and turn it into a consistent playoff team and SC contender.

I have similar views about Staios.

I remember when Green was hired there were meltdowns here from people who brough up Green's W-L record on hockeydb and formed their opinion from there. I guess they thought Staios didn't know where to find that information, and that the hiring process wasn't a lot more in depth than a cursory Google search? It's been a fantastic hire.

Green has done a great job, but fans had every reason to be disappointed by him being hired. He got Vancouver into the playoffs but then they weren't. It's not entirely his fault, but Vancouver wasn't able to make the playoffs in the Covid season with a roster more talented than ours and solid goaltending. He just couldn't get any goals out of his squads. Maybe other teams figured out how to play against his systems the way teams did against Guy Boucher.

Im' happy with what Green has done, but he could be a benefactor of solid goaltending and we'll have a better idea of his ability after the playoffs and another season where we aren't having a rookie goaltender play lights out for a dozen games.

I would agree with good to very good hire at this point. I am saving "fantastic" for a STANLEY CUP final and SC victory coach!
