After the DJ debacle I don't think anyone here wanted another "players coach" that was one of the guys.

Green has the team playing hard nosed two-way hockey and has drastically approved the accountability. Been a big plus so far.

Couldn't care less if he's not the favorite coach to play for, as long as he's not pissing guys off to the point where the want out. Don't think that's happening.

Well on a positive note that has nothing to do with Green, that poll also asked the #1 team you’d have on your no-trade, and we only got 3% of the votes! Lol.

Winnipeg got slaughtered (48%), Buffalo (19%), SJ (8%), and then Calgary was ahead of us too. Funnily enough the Rangers made the list at 2%, but that might have been Trouba and Goodrow voting.

DJ also got votes in “coach you least want to play for”, but only in the footnotes because it was 1.54% of the votes. Green wasn’t listed in that one either, so no one seems to hate him.

I'll go on the record. You can check back that I did like the green signing. Not like we had a whole lot of choice but I do believe he is the right coach for us. I like his accountability and he was an annoying player play against. I definitely have seen the improvement in this team from a defensive structure. The run and gun the lack of structure from the DJ days is long gone.

There might be a few things that frustrate the fans, but no coach is going to be perfect. And we're armed chair coaches so that's what we do. We criticize every move. No coach is perfect and never will be. I like what he's got going on. I don't see any BS S taking place. Everything is accountable to the players.

The only thing I will give him some crap on is his continued use of Hammer. The guy is squeezing every last bit of hockey out of this guy and he's bleeding him like a rock. I honestly hope we're able to send hammock to New York Islanders or maybe to Vancouver so he can retire his jersey wherever he wants. He has been filled in for injuries and played way above his head and it showed, this guy gets caught out of place more times than not. Yes everybody craps on Hammer but seriously they had no reason to be bringing this guy back another season. The dude was done 2 years ago.

The good thing about him is you can count on him to lay down for some shots and if he get injured it's probably a good thing.

Hammer specifically signed his deal so that he wouldn’t have to uproot his family, and I doubt he would never go back to Vancouver since he left in badish terms.

The best bet is to have him as 7th dman, for the rest of the season.

I was looking at Team Stats on MoneyPuck and it was pretty interesting.

We are bottom 5 in High danger and Medium danger shots for. We are bottom 5 in rebound shots for as well.

Then we are top 10 in low danger shots for.

We take a lot of shots but not from prime scoring areas. Our shooting % at 5 on 5 for shots on goal is 6.96% which is good for 31st. For comparison CBJ is at 10.02% which is a massive difference.

Just looking at these stats it looks like we could be much better offensively by tweaking a few things. Getting guys in front of the net, getting more shots from the slot, and being first on rebounds. I think our offensive game will round out. We just need to be a bit more truculent in the Ozone. We need to move the puck around quicker and make the other team get out of position.
I wonder what the underlying causes of the low quantity of High Danger shots are?

Is it because we don't have players who can and will drive the to the net? Is that due to smaller size, slower skating skills, poor shooting skills, or fear of getting injured or ?????

Thought people might find this interesting from the NHL Player Poll posted by The Athletic:
108 player responses naming 28 coaches, notably including a single vote for DJ Smith.
Notably concerning Ottawa, not a single vote for Travis Green.
Was there any info provided about which players provided responses, which teams they played for now, and how the Athletic chose the responders?

Love how Green has spread out the minutes this season - he has really managed the top players really well and not overdone it and even the bottom line guys are getting NHL minutes and helping the team win and not just on the bench filling spots

Gives me a ton of confidence going down the stretch and into the playoffs the players will have the energy and emotion to continue this great hockey they are playing

And it only took about 55 games for Staois to announce Ottawa has seen a complete culture change and the GM has the confidence now to make a huge move and bring in a player (Cozens) who needs stucture, culture and winning habits and Green and his players will provide that - massive for a GM to be so confident in the coaching staff already that they can make moves like this knowing the coach and culture will improve the player and the team.

Nice work Travis Green

Green has done a legitimately great job. Even looking at the team at the start of the year, I remember saying their biggest issue was they could not find different ways to win. It was either dominate the game or lose.

To think they’re now at the point where they win games in every fashion is such a massive shift. The scoring has finally started to come along too, even dating back to before the break until the injuries hit.

His obsession with Hamonic is the only real frustration I have but all coaches do this so it is what it is.

Chabot told Green that if he benched Hamonic, he would have to bench Chabot too....because Hamonic is the only defenceman that makes more glaring mistakes on a consistant basis than Chabot.

Luckily Chabby and Jensen have the best plus minus on the team.

Have really liked the coaching staff so far but sticking with players you have a previous relationship with over players that could help win more is a REAL PROBLEM.
I’m talking hamonic highmore and even gaudette.
(Hamonic played 14mins last game, jensen played 15mins and hamonic left the game early. That doesn’t make a lot of sense unless jensen was dealing with something too)

Highmore has been useless for a while. 22 games, 1 goal.
They called him up after he scored 2 goals in 23 games in Belleville! Are you kidding me? Hasn’t left. Why?

Gaudette too. Great start, flat finish.
I’m not sure if this falls on staios equally or more because he doesn’t want to call up crookshank or Macewen or even pilon. But give some other guys a shot. We’ve been through long losing streaks so it’s not about keeping a winning lineup together.

Zetterlund should knock out Highmore (he better) but that’s the complaint so far.

Zetterland will either knock Perron or Giroux down to 3rd line, with Gregor traded to SJ.
