So far, Green has turned into the right choice for this group, hopefully he keeps it going. I really like how he has them playing defensively & has cut down dramatically on the goals against which has been desperately needed the last few yrs. Also shows us how much better this team is when it gets good consistent goaltending they can depend on.

It’s never too late to remake yourself and find new friends is the lesson here. Also, keep food stored in your cheeks

Let’s hope he doesn’t lose the room after the first season!

Those Leafs series' were 20+ years ago. A lifetime ago. Feels basically irrelevant at this point.

Not to me or Leaves nation. They live off if this and the only way to end that narrative is to sweep them in the playoffs and crush their dreams.

We are the underdogs with the better goalie and more jam just like the old rivalry but in reverse

I mean, I'd love to beat them, but I don't really GAF about what happened over 20 years ago and holding on to those grudges. I'd happily break bread with Domi or Tucker at this point. Water under the bridge imo.

I think Green has improved team play. A big part of the better performance is goaltending with Ullmark and Merilainen, with a nod to Forsberg for some improvements in his play. I also like the addition of Jensen on RD which has been a weak area for far too long. Must also mention the addition of Cousins.

I have deliberately left out some other additions that I don't think have been as positive as those mentioned above.

I think we think the same; must have been separated at birth! :)

I found him to be more annoying than hated. Those were reserved for Tie Dummy, Mother Tucker, Corson, Fat Quinn, and Cujo/Belfour. I mean f*** those guys.

Green is doing a wonderful job in making the whole team accountable. I love the way the team plays when they are in unison. This team finally knows how to spell defence.

A stark contrast from the previous regime, that’s for sure. They were more country club than a hockey club, and that culture is finally changing.

I find it encouraging that Green built up a bad Canucks team to a team that won 2 playoff rounds in 2020.

Travis Green has more playoff series wins as coach than Toronto has in the last 20 years.

Then they missed the playoffs (Petterson missed a lot of the season) and then a poor start and he was gone. In hindsight, the Canucks roster had a lot of flakes and of course the Petterson / Miller situation. The team are coach killers, and they did the same to Green as they did to Boudreau, and appear like they're doing to Tocchet. Now, Tocchet might right the ship now that Miller is gone, and the team has a lot more talent, including the generational Q Hughes.

Green has them playing well. It's awesome but let’s unpack a few things

When Green arrived people pointed to his record and screamed. But if you listened to insiders, they were saying that Vancouver players were ready to listen to Tocchet after not being successful

You look at Smith. He came from a successful program. He's currently coaching in a successful program. So what was it about our program that was a problem? Several players, including Tkachuk the other day, have talked about being tired of losing and committing to playing hockey in a way that helps you win.

My takeaway from listening to various players is that they weren't really ready to win. Ever hear the expression "you have to coach the junior out of them" ?? On our end, we weren't breaking young players into a winning culture

Look at Boston. They seem to be on the edge of imploding. They had Bergeron and Chara. This is how we do it. This is how we play. And we take less on contract to be a Bruin. They're gone. McAvoy never bought into the taking less. Swayman held out for what he wanted. They even had the advantage of two leaders being able to assess players and go to the GM to say "ya that guy isn't buying into the Bruins program"

Back to us. Ya Green has us going well. But you can clearly see a commitment to playing hockey a certain way because it leads to winning. That's on the players. It's also on their past.
