This team was playing better with Ostapchuk in the lineup. The obvious is that he made the third line better but it's more than that. There's an Ostapchuk effect in that he makes everything around him better by osmosis, he is that kind of player.

Greig would need to go down as he is waiver exempt and he could use the stint in the A to get his touch back but it's unlikely. Also unlikely we waive anyone on the 4th line considering how good that line has been for most of the year.

Might be the best thing for Greig at this point. Dude is playing like he's a 500 game vet who is locked in for the next 6 years. Not like a scrapper who has to fight for icetime. He's way too comfortable but he hasn't done a thing this season to earn it.

I think its been a couple games too long as is.
Not criticizing Hamonic but to me you just don't want a player sitting out that many games as a healthy scratch and then expect them to come in and perform, particularly a younger player still developing at the NHL level. So if they want Hamonic in , which they apparently do ... keep the number of games being scratched down a bit more than they did this time. Also they are bringing JBD back in now after a game when the team play is off.

Piece of meat

He's been averaging 15 minutes per night, which is just about a minute more than Kleven has been averaging as a bottom-pairing dman...I can't conceive of any way this guy has been in the top 10 problems this team is facing. Let alone so much of a problem that this is such a worthwhile celebration?

How about a 12.5% PP in November? 24th in the league.
How about 2.11 GF/GP in November? 31st in the league.
How about 78.6% PK in November? 22nd in the league.
How about 13GF at 5v5 in November? 23rd in the league.
How about the fact that our defenseman have combined for 3G this entire season?

He doesn't play the PP and he's #5 in average PKTOI. He has 6.3% Offensive Zone Starts, which is only ahead of Ostapchuk at 3.1% for last place on the team. He leads the team in shots blocked per 60. He plays his role just fine. This is a scratch that doesn't move the needle one way or another.

Maybe the coach could do something more useful like fixing our PP or PK or Sanderson or scoring or get the guys to win when they give up the first goal of the game? I don't know. Maybe that's too radical and it's better to sit the guy playing 15 minutes a night.

This seems to come from the angle that the only thing Green is doing is swapping out Hamonic for JBD, and he isn't trying to "do something more useful like fixing our PP or PK or Sanderson or scoring or get the guys to win when they give up the first goal of the game".

Like, I'm sure they are working on the PP in practice, I have no doubt they are trying to address the PK, scratching Hamonic doesn't mean they are ignoring these things. Such an odd way to respond to what seems like a positive or at worst lateral move being announced.

Well, I think Hammer has been OK the last several games, but at least Green is trying something. JBD needs some NHL game time too. Staois can’t change a team via a trade or other means overnight, nor should he. Its on the players. The situational awareness comments from Green I thought were pretty good.

Oh they're working on it!!! My apologies. Here I thought they were just rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic.

Putrid special teams 🚫

Scratching Hamonic ✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️

Phew! Our season is saved now! They're finally benching the guy with the least impact on the game in favour of another guy with little to no impact on the game.

Ok, so what do you want to see Green do to address the PP, PK and Sanderson scoring in between games? Like, what change were you hoping to hear about that would resolve those issues? Because if you are complaining that scratching Hamonic isn't moving the needle, I'm sure you have some great ideas on what would that he could put in place right now, right?

My you're in a fowl mood today. The season doesn't need saving, they're not in a bad spot. A couple of wins strung together and they're back in a playoff spot. They've been playing good hockey and are getting closer to figuring out how to consistently win games. Why so emotional? It's not time to panic like this.

How about taking Sanderson off the top PP unit? 12.5% conversion rate and nobody plays more minutes per game on the PP than this guy.
How about reducing Giroux's minutes? He's averaging the second highest average TOI among forwards while producing a single point.
How about sitting Cousins? He's producing next to nothing in offense, defense or intangibles like agitation.
How about bumping up Gregor to the top PK? This guy shouldn't be averaging half the PKTOI that Giroux gets when he was brought in, specifically, for that type of role.
How about shaking up the gameplan when we get scored on first? Sticking to the blueprint is not working, as evidenced by a single win in 10 games where we give up the first goal of the game.
How about when your starting goalie is publicly saying he's not sure about his game you don't increase his workload? Sticking to your rotation after Forsberg shuts out Seattle doesn't make any sense.

None of these are things that need to be addressed publicly. You just do them and see what happens.

I asked you what you want him to address between games that he can make public since you decided to criticize something that was made public as not enough. You don't know what he's doing to address the other things, but you sure felt the need to complain whatever he is doing publicly isn't enough...

Sanderson is 17th in PP on ice Goals/60 among the top 160 players in PP TOI. You sure he's the problem? Even just looking at the last 10 games, he's pretty much even with Hughes Panarin and Draisaitl at 71 out of 158, still not really what I'd call problematic.

Gregor has been injured, how exactly do you want to move him to the top PK unit right now?

Just do them and see what happens seems like a rather lack luster strategy. Change for the sake of change isn't always positive.

Except I do because I literally wrote them down for you.

In November, our PP is converting at 12.5% and the guy struggling the most is averaging the most PPTOI of any player on the team. So, no, he's not addressing anything when he keeps running it back game after game after game.

In November, Giroux has 1 point in 9 games while averaging the second most TOI among forwards, just behind Stutzle (but basically the same). I wouldn't say he's addressing it when he keeps putting the guy out there for 20 minutes a night. I mean, for f***'s sake, the man is gonna be 37 soon. Why is he even playing that many minutes to begin with?

In November, Gregor played 7 games. He was still averaging about HALF the PK time per game that Giroux was. Yes, he's injured now. Good catch there chief!

I can re-write every single thing I said or you can just go back and read them and the specific criticisms I have.

Change for the sake of change? LOL. This team is sub .500. If we're not going to change things now, when are we?

No, the problem is your pathological need to mindlessly go to bat for every dumbass decision these guys make because you see yourself as some centrist aribter of "truth", unswayed by emotion.

Ok, so you were at the practice today and know what the upcoming changes for todays game are? Didn't think so.

I asked about what changes you want him to announce right now because you shit on the change they did announce as not enough, he can't change the past and whether or not he addresses any of the things you thing would help or not, it doesn't impact whether swapping out Hamonic is a positive move or not. You are complaining just to complain at this point.

I must be watching different games than you guys, Hamonic has been hurting us pretty bad this season with his lack of speed and decision making. I was hoping he'd get back to simple hockey, but he's simply not quick enough for us to be competitive even with the amount of minutes he's getting. He's also not making our PK any better, which was his forte. JBD is still developing and I'd rather he play, he also has a decent shot from the blueline.

I'm actually surprised they scratched Hamonic considering the messaging both Staois and Green have been relaying over the last couple of days.

Who would you replace Sanderson with on PP1?

Who would get the minutes that Giroux loses? Maybe you push Giroux down to a lower line, but who do you move up?

I have an idea on my first question. Not sure it would be more effective, but it might be worth a try.

I’m just curious about your ideas on how to improve the team. You’ve identified some issues. But the solutions are important, no?

He's 5th among dmen on this team in PKTOI per game. He's not making the PK better because he's essentially not on the PK.

They made it clear that they aren't scratching Hamonic because of his play, but because JBD needs some reps, and they don't want him going cold. If JBD was waiver exempt, he'd probably be in Belleville.

Maybe I'm expecting too much from Hamonic and comparing him to his 22-23 season, but I'm having trouble seeing anything other than an anchor.
