let's not get too much in front of our skies here.... after 30 games, the Senators are sitting with 15 wins and 15 losses, and just recently clawed their way into a WC spot.... holding onto to that spot is going to be a good test, when they're just embarking on their longest (9 game) road trip in many years, with three Back to Back games included.... oh and (for now) their Back Up goaltender is unavailable....

Eh. This is like a reminder to be pessimistic. It's been 8 years since this fan base had anything to cheer for. Ride the high! That Tkachuk goal against Pittsburgh was worth screaming about.

Also, said backup has struggled mightily this season and last, so I don't think that changes much.

Where was the "lets not get too far ahead of ourselves, it's still early in the season" mentality when you posted this two weeks ago?

Ottawa is out of the playoffs now, and most likely for the remainder of the season.

Columbus .543
Philadelphia .540
Buffalo .500

Otttawa .458

Unless zombie Melnyk rises from his grave, stages a hostile takeover of the Sens, re-hires DOHrion and brings back DJ Smith this poster will likely linger in pessimism.

Oh well. 7-2-1 in our last 10. Some very puck unlucky games already under our belt. Bottom 3rd PDO so far and we're still in a playoff position. Time to be cautiously optimistic going into the most important road trip in half a decade+.

GSG!

Next 4 games are against Seattle, Flames, Canucks & Oilers. Senators have been playing much better over the last several games, so I have no idea what to expect. They seem to have turned a corner. Hopefully they’ll carry on with their winning ways.

What is Forsberg’s injury? Anybody know?

Who will be our backup if Forsberg is unable to play?

League average was around .910 when DJ was hired, not really an apples to apples comp.

It’s still expecting above average goaltending with inefficient systems and unproven goaltending options.

Either way, I’m stoked with what we have in net now and pleasantly surprised with Travis Green.

I'll never understand all the water carrying here for the failure that was happening clearly in front of us.

I am nervous, but I'm not going to purposely live in negativity because it might not go well.

Leevi Meriläinen was called up, so presumably him.

I’m also nervous but this is an opportunity for this team to shed previous labels, seize this day, and send the message they won’t be a doormat anymore.

It’s time to make a stand and show who they are. No more two steps forward, three steps back. Keep pushing forward.

I agree. I was bullish on Ullmark heading in and I think that not going well initially really shook my confidence in what they were capable of, but with him back to Vezina form, and other additions like Amadio & Cousins picking it up making the 3rd line a strength, I'm feeling pretty good about it. Certainly a daunting road trip, but sometimes those can also surprise and galvanize a team, so we'll see.

Sure, being overly optimistic about your goaltending isn't ideal, I'm just saying hoping for .917 sv% in 2020 is very different than hoping for .917 today.

Back to Green,

We've had some bumps in the road, the team did not react well in the games that followed the collapse against the Flyers, but going 7-2-1 without Zub or Perron is nice to see.

Seems like we've made some adjustments on the PK which has looked pretty good the last 3 games, hopefully that holds up. I thought the PP has looked good as well.

If there's one thing Green has done a great job of it's reducing the quality chances against and as a result the 5v5 goals against.

Last year, we had the 3rd worst GA/60, and 10th worst xGA/60
This year, we have 16th best GA/60, and the 7th best xGA/60 at 5v5.

Obviously, Ullmark helps with the GA, but the xGA is a big improvement too.
