Ohh like that they're giving Tallinder a shot ... Signs that perhaps Franson will start to get shopped as soon as preseason games start .. If Tallinder impresses perhaps he'll replace him

I would do that, and I wouldn't mind trading a couple of other guys on defense and bringing in Mikkelson on defense for the AHL or as a 7th defenseman.

Who would get waived if they sign one....as there is no cap room for a minimum NHL salary.

Ashton, Abbott, Holzer, Orr, McLaren, Marshall, Smith, Kozun, Bodie

Those are the guys that will be exposed, everyone else can move up or down as they please. I doubt we'll see any claimed when all the other teams are dumping players at the same time.

Gardiner - Phaneuf
Rielly - Robidas
Tallinder - Polak
Franson

That's an improvement from yesterday. Hope he signs the 1yr/1mil contract everyone else has.

Granberg can come up later in the year when injuries happen with his ELC.

Interesting that Mackenzie broke this news instead of Dredger/Simmons ect. Guess they're getting cut out of the loop.

Can't be mad at these moves: i'd be fine with them on cheap, 1 year deals.

Bringing in one of the crappiest defencemen from one of the crappiest defensive teams in the NHL. Makes no sense.

There are few defensemen out there that are better quality than Tallinder for a PTO, he basically costs us nothing if he doesn't make the team but if he does, we have a 7th D for a minimal contract and that also applies to Mikkelson

Much rather have Percy get games in when injuries occur. Gathering quite the roster of retreds.

I like the idea of Tallinder in a depth role for sure (hopefully we can move Franson out). Veteran, respected presence who can also, like Robidas, work with the kids. I am all for 'play the kids', but this team has been sorely lacking of quality vets, and they can sit out a game without hurting their development.

I think Tallinder would be a great signing. No use in having someone like Granberg or Percy as the #7, they need to be getting big minutes in the AHL, not sitting in the press box. Tallinder could sit in the press box and step in when needed. If Robidas isn't ready to go for the start of the reason, Tallinder could step in and be good on the bottom pairing. Could see something like:

Gardiner-Phaneuf
Rielly-Franson
Tallinder-Polak

Assuming Robidas isn't ready that is.

I'd love to see Tallinder as our 6th/7th D. I think he'd be great for that role. Mikkelson, however, I see no point in signing. He's not an NHL player, and if signs in the AHL he'll just be taking time from Percy, Granberg, Finn, MacWilliam, Nilsson, Loov and Knodel.

Mikkelson was known like 3-4 days ago.

Fine. Let him earn it.. Don't just hand it to him. If he outplays many on D and still doesn't get a job Then I would be upset.

Tallinder is interesting. Hopefully he pushes Franson out

How much does an aging Tallinder have left?

I think it would be better if it was youth like Granberg, Percy, Finn pushing Franson out as that would have long range benefits.

Tallinder pushing out younger players while nearing the end of his career doesn't help the future only the present.

I think Tallinder should be looked at as a possible #7 only, and players like Granberg, Percy and Finn won't compete for a #7 spot. They will compete with guys like Franson for the #5, #6 spots and if they push Cody down, we'll likely see him traded rather than take Tallinders place.

I don't think getting Tallinder would really slow things down much for our kids.

Agree. He would ideal as a #7 injury fill in. Not the player he once was. Blood clot injury took him out a few years back. But in his day, he formed a good shutdown role in the chicken wing capital of Americer. Rather him sitting in the press box than Granberg or Percy.

That's the problem. Uncle randy will hand it to Henrik regardless how Percy plays.

I see zero upside in either of these guys getting a roster spot. So tired of has beens and never weres.

Competition. If the kids are worth their salt they will force their own way on
