I honestly don't give a shit about how a coach sounds in pressers. Daryl Sutter sounds like a caveman.

Even with Knoblaugh, he was so soft spoken in his first pressers here I initially thought "man this guy is too nice, he might be in trouble in the big leagues".

It's all about your systems and what you let slide as a coach and what you don't let slide. And how you can build players up but also hold them accountable.

I think Connor and Leon want him here. He takes pressure off them in the locker room so they aren't the only ones who have to rally the team all the time. He's a veteran star and has won before and he's not afraid to speak up. I think they told JJ that.
Agreed it’s very akin to the Duncan Keith thing they want another proven leader.

Darryl Sutter is now irrelevant as a coach in today’s nhl (and I love DS) partially because of how he interacts with his players.

It does matter how you interact and connect with people as an NHL coach nowadays in order to be successful. And the systems have to be sound as well, as you say.

But systems being equal, we don’t have to like it, but society demands a different approach. Coach Kris has it figured out how he can reach people. Players and media.

Want to see Skinner tried with McDavid, but let's see where this goes! Mainly because I always wish for McDavid to have a winger that can have the instincts to anticipate the rush and frequently be a contributing factor on them. McDavid rarely has guys with him 5v5 that are even in view when he is attacking on a rush from our end. Skinner is like 95% rush offense. Nuge is nowhere to be seen on 95% of McDavid 5v5 rushes. Hyman maybe 40%. Both guys went to 0% in the finals with Nuge Nuge'ing and Hyman broken down from the last 3 rounds. Just McDavid solo against a swarm all series.

glaciers move faster

Podkolzin will carry both those guys on his back.

Looking at the lineup again top 6 is improved but that 4th line is rouuggggh.
I think deadline work will be adding a right winger to play with Henrique and Kane unless a prospect or Brown shows ready.

Depending on how Podkolzin looks and Kane getting healthy, I am not overly worried about the wingers. I do think we will need a 4C by the trade deadline unless there is a waiver claim.

Looks good but also looks much slower in the bottom 9. Will be interesting to see if we can overcome getting older and slower, but theoretically wiser and a bit more skilled.

They might even want Perry more, he seems like he's pretty vocal and will tear a strip off anyone, probably JJ was told straight up by Connor/Leon or Connor himself to bring him back. Keith was a leader too but I think he's one of those more silent leader types.

Watching him chew out Kane even I was like "whoa, calm down buddy".

I honestly even find it somewhat encouraging when a coach isn't the best or most charismatic speaker.

It shows they got to where they are thanks to their results rather than some snake oil they hustled.

The biggest snake oil salesman ever had to be Ralph Krueger though.

Krueger was just fine. He only played the west that year and had an above 500 record just missing the playoffs. He and Nelson were the only coaches that were able to show any success regarding Yakupov. It’s not his fault he never got a full season and was fired by MacT over skype in favor of Dallas Dolphin boy Eakins

Krueger has the infamous moniker of being head coach in not only one, but TWO decades of darkness between here and Buffalo. I think his record speaks for itself.

He wasn’t fine in Buffalo or here.
