Rookie camp has started this week and with training camp starting soon enough it's time for one of these threads for daily news and such. Speaking of which Staple tweeted out some possible camp invites today:

#Isles may have a couple familiar veterans in camp next week: D Radek Martinek, who came to camp on tryout in Jan. and signed for 1 year...

And possibly Brad Boyes, who signed 1-year deal last summer and was 3rd-leading scorer (10-25-35) last season. Surprisingly still an FA.

No indication #Isles will bring another veteran G to camp. Not to start, at least.

Very interesting.. I'm not shocked about Martinek figured he'd somehow find his way into camp I doubt he'll ever get on the ice this season but bringing Boyes in on an invite is a surprise.

I'm not surprised about not bringing a veteran goalie in although I do wish that they did.

I'm glad Marty will be back. He showed last year that he is willing to sit, and can still play when called upon. We really didn't need him last year, but injuries can happen at any time. Always smart to have 8 NHL ready dmen.

Don't really like the Boyes move. I have a feeling if he is going to make the team, he will get the 1st line minutes again. This wouldn't be an issue if we had more right handed forwards. Cappy seems to really like having righties on the right.

Islanders might be doing him a favor by allowing him to show case whatever talent he has with the hope another team notices and offers him a 1 way contract

Just don't want Snow noticing anything good about The Turnover Machine!!!!

Lastly, Calvin DeHaan looked very sharp, especially in his transition passes on breakout drills. After only playing 3 games last season due to a serious shoulder injury, if he keeps up this level of play it will not be only Matt Donovan that we are talking about come the close of camp. This competition could be a lot closer than I had even anticipated prior to this morning.

You go CDH! :)

awful coverage...I don't even think Arthur Staple is at rookie camp. I guess we have to settle for the two fluff pieces and three 30 second videos by red headed greg.

Until he gets injured again. I hope it doesn't happen, but you just know it is coming...

Can't wait to see CDH with the Isles. Between now and the move to Bklyn is very exciting. The future is very bright!

You're right, I hold my breath that he can finally stay healthy. If he can be the player that so many of us think he can be, that would be big for the organization. If he does get hurt again, we finally have the depth to be able to absorb the loss. He is the wildcard of the organization.
