Matthews said "let it settle down" a couple times yesterday, so I'm assuming his back.
If they have a brain they will definitely re-sign Marner.Marner’s tone and actions so far this season may sway management’s decision to move on from him. I think they are leaning towards re-signing him, but maybe they’ll reevaluate.
Maybe if he maintains this attitude, hovers around a 95 point player, and is once again pushed out of the playoffs, they’ll rethink it.If they have a brain they will definitely re-sign Marner.

He seems a little different this year. He’s always seemed uncomfortable in front of the mic and says things that he shouldn’t, but this year he seems a little more calculated and intentional.‘Tone and actions’
I haven't really been watching the interviews this year. Do you have a link? Or what was it he said?He seems a little different this year. He’s always seemed uncomfortable in front of the mic and says things that he shouldn’t, but this year he seems a little more calculated and intentional.
His comment and mannerism answering the question about the upcoming Amazon show was odd, and if he was in a tough media market he would been drilled after that comment.
But then you have the Marner disappearing act in the playoffs where he reverts to a 3rd line player. If that doesn’t change in 2025 there’s no way he’s coming back.If they have a brain they will definitely re-sign Marner.
I saw it in the closed Marner thread.I haven't really been watching the interviews this year. Do you have a link? Or what was it he said?
Unless he’s signed before then. But then you have the Marner disappearing act in the playoffs where he reverts to a 3rd line player. If that doesn’t change in 2025 there’s no way he’s coming back.
He said that *gasp*... he wasn't all that interested in watching the show... THE NERVE! HOW COULD HE!?I haven't really been watching the interviews this year. Do you have a link? Or what was it he said?
Completely agree. Getting Thornton and Marleau vibes. This team is looking older and maybe a bit slower. I prefer Robertson with his youth and energy but Max has a spot. I am just very skeptical he brings much to the table at this point.Honestly, I don’t think Patches should make this team. We need a younger, faster guy in his spot.
Marleau was fine his first year as I recall.Completely agree. Getting Thornton and Marceau vibes. This team is looking older and maybe a bit slower. I prefer Robertson with his youth and energy but Max has a spot. I am just very skeptical he brings much to the table at this point.
I have my own theory on this. After the Hab playoff loss I think he bought into Keefes playoff hockey playbook. Playing on the defensive side of the puck Limit turnovers don’t take risks. And that is what he did. The problem is that doing this takes away everything that makes Marner elite. He is best when he just reacts and tries plays most won’t even consider even if a few end up in turnovers. Safe Marner is a fraction of the player. But then you have the Marner disappearing act in the playoffs where he reverts to a 3rd line player. So even with the assumption that we could just hand pick whoever we want and get them to sign in Toronto for the exact same AAV (very unlikely), we'd be paying 1.25m more than Marner/Benoit to get older and lose more overall offensive impact than the overall defensive impact we're gaining. Not sure how that's supposed to make us better. If you read my response further down, I said Lindholm at 2C and Matt Roy at 2RHD would have made us better and more balanced had Marner waived.
It would probably be Roy instead of OEL. And how are we better? Same answer it always is - PLAYOFFSSo even with the assumption that we could just hand pick whoever we want and get them to sign in Toronto for the exact same AAV (very unlikely), we'd be paying 1.25m more than Marner/Benoit to get older and lose more overall offensive impact than the overall defensive impact we're gaining. That doesn't make us better in the playoffs. And yes, as you pointed out, we could have gotten Roy without losing one of the best players in the league. The difference between the cost of Roy and OEL is less than a Kampf. It would probably be Roy instead of OEL. And how are we better? Same answer it always is - PLAYOFFS
This is under the assumption Roy even wanted to sign in Toronto/Canada at all.It would probably be Roy instead of OEL. And how are we better? Same answer it always is - PLAYOFFS
3 points in 7 games. 3. 11 goals in 57 games. Marner can f*** off and we can roll with 10.9 in cap space for all I care. Still think we’d be better. That doesn't make us better in the playoffs. No, we would not be better without one of the best players in the world, who is also our leading playoff scorer.3 points in 7 games. 3. 11 goals in 57 games. Marner can f*** off and we can roll with 10.9 in cap space for all I care. Still think we’d be better.
Let me break it down so you can understand:So even with the assumption that we could just hand pick whoever we want and get them to sign in Toronto for the exact same AAV (very unlikely), we'd be paying 1.25m more than Marner/Benoit to get older and lose more overall offensive impact than the overall defensive impact we're gaining. I’d like this if I could. But instead you’ll probably get an infraction for doing nothing.Let me break it down so you can understand:
Some posters here tolerate you.
Other posters here toy with you.
I am neither, and don’t give a rats ass what you think about anything.
Move along and go play outside.
Have a nice day.

Path of least resistance. With 3 of the best players in the world they've won one round in 8 years ...
But I will bet MLSE completely agrees with your logic, hence why the core is still here, and so far 3/5 of them (incl. Reilly) have gotten extensions after all that losing.
