A different training camp this year. No preseason games, no cuts probably. The guys in camp are there for the NHL team, the Taxi Squad or because they have nowhere else to be assigned yet. For the Blues at least, I think we pretty well know who makes the final roster.

I also think the lines and pairings we are seeing are probably what they start the year with. There is just not enough time to experiment a lot.

Gunnerson is a very good defender.I think a offensiv defencmann is a good fit.

I am guessing that Gunner and Bortz will take turns as 6/7 d-men depending upon match ups
if we have an injury or illness it would probably be Mikkola moving up the depth chart to replace Scandella, Bortz, or Parayko
and Peru if we lose Faulk, Dunn, or Krug

Does this mean Mikkola is out?

Nope.

It suggests that he might have to fight harder for a spot than some people think, but no one is "out" on day 2 of camp. There is also a very, very good chance that most teams use 9+ D men this season, so even if he is "out" after camp, he will very likely get another chance at some point.

I think this means Perunovich could be spelling Bortuzzo on occasion and the Blues dress 7 dmen quite a bit too.

Perunovich often plays his offside so that’s why he’s paired with Gunnar.

Mikkola is a lefty and after Bortuzzo we don’t have any quality RHD to pair him with to justify being above Gunnarsson’s pairing.

That’s all I read into it.

Mikkola can play his offside too.

I’ve said this before and I stand by it, despite it being a hot take for now:

The Blues should protect Niko Mikkola and trade Vince Dunn

I’m down. Gain an asset and protect a young and up and coming asset. It’s good business.

I would suspect the asset(s) we get back for Dunn are going to be worth less than Dunn himself.
I don't see Armstrong falling for that ploy where the GM outsmarts himself and ends up losing two assets in the expansion draft in an effort to protect someone. If the Blues lose Dunn, so be it. I'm resigned to them losing someone we don't want to lose. Its what happened with Perron. Its just the nature of the expansion draft.
