If Marner goes for a reasonable extension

Marner for nemec and Dawson? (With extension)?

Marner for Dobson?

Marner for jiricek and sillinger?

Marner for Mctavish?
I would love that New Jersey or Anaheim deal, unfortunately I don’t see Marner waiving to go to any of those destinations. I think LA would be at the top of the list for Marner to waive to, if he were to even waive.

It would have to be where he would sign.

Where would you think?

la. (Anaheim is right there)
Seattle?

I don’t see many teams that can spend 12 million.

Marner or Nylander back with Dubas

Marcus Pettersson + 2025 1st top 10 protected + the finnish prospect from bunting deal

You get capspace this summer to add a Reinhart type player and add a #2/3D and gain a 1st

Pens probably just want to make the playoffs next 2 years and dont care about marner/nylanders playoff disapointments banking on their older core to help them out.

Marner for B.Tkachuk + picks, then proceed to trade those said picks with a + to acquire a d-partner for Rielly.

The whole outlook of the team has now changed.

People are more level headed with me but depending on how the team goes out, my gloves would be coming off as GM in terms of the handling of these players.

I wonder if he’d like Detroit so he could play with his buddy Dylan Larkin. They love playing together.

Doubt you get anything more than Tkachuk for Marner. But I also doubt a move that big happens with a rival. Lol

I could see Vegas finding room for Marner. They have some big decisions coming up (Marchessault, Theodore, Stephenson). There could be a deal around Marner+McCabe (12.9M) for Theodore, Roy, Hill (13.1M). Marner steps onto their top line next season in place of Marchessault. McCabe plays next to Pietrangelo and Hanifin anchors their 2nd pair. They can fill out a roster with signed players with holes at 2LW, 4C and 2G with 7.5M to spare.

Toronto could line up like:

Domi(3.5M?)-Matthews-X
Knies-Roy-Nylander
McMann-Tavares-Jarnkrok
Dewar(<1M)-Holmberg-X

Rielly-X
Theodore-X
Benoit-Liljegren(2M?)

Hill
Woll

With ~16M to play with assuming Kampf gets moved and Reaves is 13F.

Sens are not trading BT to the Leafs for Marner and the thought of him wanting $12+m. I doubt Nylander gets you much after his new deal kicks in. Face it, we are f***ed with the 3 amigos making what they are making and not being able to take it to the next level in the playoffs. Throw in Tavares at $11m and expect the same results next year.

All they have to do is let them walk.

Effectively, it is trading the players for $22mm in Cap Space.

Sure, you might not get back the same talent in 1 player (in free agency), but has that 1 player proven to be successful when the going gets heavy?

Leafs wouldn't be breaking up the 1980's Oilers ...

Hard to believe Tre chose to overpay Nylander rather than trade him for less than market value or let him walk for the cap space. That decision may now force him to overpay Marner because there is no better option. Sigh. What a joke the Leafs are on and off the ice.

I agree, BT isn’t going anywhere and I highly doubt Marner would want to re-sign long term in Ottawa, especially growing up as a hardcore Leafs fan.

If they get bounced in round one, I’m praying they at least explore moving Marner. Very unlikely though, I get that.

I would hold onto Nylander though, even under that new contract. Bertuzzi and Nylander worked really well IMO, that would be 2/3rds of my ideal second line.

Should have happened during their RFA contract negotiations, or at the very latest after we lost to Montreal.

We've coddled and overpaid our stars for far too long. Unfortunately for Treliving, he literally had less than a month until the NMCs kicked in, so he was given insufficient time to address things.

You can hold on to one of Nylander and Marner at those cap hits but not both IMO. If they are punted by the Bruins and Pelley decides they have to break up the core, they can ask Marner where he is willing to sign and they can work out a deal, they can use him as an own rental or they can try to sign him for a team friendly number. If they chose to move on, I still say Marner would be open to a trade. Seriously, only a loser would want to stick around where he is not wanted.

I completely agree. I would keep Nylander over Marner only because we’ve seen him take over offensively and win us a game. His skating and shooting abilities are elite and you need that in today’s game. We can find good PKers further down the lineup. I also really dislikes how Marner speaks with the media, Nylander on the other hand is made for this market.

Pre contract Nylander over Marner is a non brainer IMO. I cannot blame him if he is pissed at the role he has been given. You do not pay him $11.5m and then put him on line #3 with plugs. That should go to Tavares at this point.

He could have moved Nylander but nobody was offering a #1D. Should have made a similar trade to the PLD trade if one was out there. He did the worst thing he could do. Caved at the mid season point.

We were close on a Nylander to Pietrangelo trade around the RFA hold up with Nylander....didn't happen though.

Marner with a NMC would dictate where he gets moved to and the acquiring team will demand an extension (Hanifin deal).

Calgary received a first-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, defenseman Daniil Miromanov and a conditional third-round pick in the 2025 draft from Vegas.

The returns for Marner would be equally pitiful. We're better off isolating all three (Marner, Nylander, Matthews) on separate lines paired with legit playoff performers.

I'm hopeful new management will communicate to JT and Marner that they're going in a different direction come 2025 and honour your contracts if you'd like but we won't be renewing. Or pick your destination and play out final year elsewhere.

Auston Matthews is the only untouchable here, everyone and everything else should be on the table. I don't want to hear anything about NMCs, they're in place to protect the player from being traded to an unwanted destination. The core needed a shakeup after the 2021 Habs series, this is long, long overdue.
That includes Mo he is a good offensive player but d
Defensively NO.

Ottawa dosnt touch Marner not for Tkachuk unless he wants out

But Marner won't go there

Brady is the leader you need we need to find one.

Yep, agreed that Nylander is more on him (though still not given a ton of time to work with).

Didn't need a home run trade - 11.5M could be better used elsewhere, so some trade for some mix of pick(s), prospect(s), and/or mid-roster player(s), plus capspace on top of that, would have been good. Didn't need a #1D or better player coming back. He essentially needs to be top 10ish in scoring on a regular basis for the next ~4-5 years and then not decline substantially after that for this caphit to make sense (this year was his first year in the top 10, and he was 10th).

We're paying him to be a Kucherov/ Pastrnak calibre winger, but he's closer to Fiala, Debrincat, Keller range IMO.
