ROR scored the gametying goal in game 3 with under a minute left, won the face-off on the 4-4 goal in game 4. He was pretty good and the Leafs wanted to re-sign him, he just didn't want to stick around

If you get another ROR it's fine. The issue is Brayden Schenn is not a ROR
Even if O'Reilly was not clearly a better player, the $2M difference in their contracts makes his value a lot higher. They just need Kampf as part of what is going the other way and they wouldn't need retention.

If we're out on Brayden, can we still get Luke?

I would like to have Luke (or a Luke-a-like) with Mo and an RD partner for OEL to push Benoit to #7. If we can swing it.

Unless Hakanpaa is actually going to play at some point. Which seems unlikely.
I’d prefer Savard

Friedman said and I agree that our number 1 target of people we call on is Adam Larson.

I would take him in a second if it’s even remotely possible.

I would give up Minten/1 for him.

Sorry, to clarify, was Friedman reporting our interest or speculating/giving an opinion on who we should target?

I can definitely see Tre having interest.

If the Leafs aren't able to land one of their top centre targets, one insider believes Brad Treliving will pivot to adding a big piece at another position.

The high price of the top targets at center may lead to the Leafs and Brad Treliving to explore a potential "plan B", according to Chris Johnston on Thursday's edition of "The CJ Show".

"The Leafs want to get a defenseman this deadline as well... I think there's a world where all the stuff with centres falls through, maybe they use some of those more attractive assets they have to trade for a defenseman... Is there a world where Rasmus Andersson becomes available in Calgary?"

Andersson's name was mentioned due to the connections to Treliving from his time in Calgary, but unless Calgary drastically falls out of the playoff hunt, Johnston noted it was very unlikely to happen.

Johnston, however, did not dismiss the notion that a big swing is coming for the Leafs.

"If the Schenn thing doesn't come to pass for whatever reason. If Philadelphia holds strong and says it's got to be a first or equivalent for Laughton and the Leafs decide they just can't give that up, then you're getting into a rental type centre who's cheaper and you still have the first. Then you're Toronto and you're looking at the blueline... The Leafs are of the mind to take a big swing."

According to NHL insider Pierre LeBrun, one of the names they were looking at has a mutual interest in joining the team for several reasons.

Why Brandon Tanev makes Toronto better

It would be great if the Maple Leafs could sign Brandon Tanev. He would help Toronto overcome offensive inconsistencies on the third line and offer much-needed defensive prowess.

It would also reunite Brandon with his brother Chris, who has been the backbone of Toronto's improved defense.

Getting the chance to win in your hometown and with your brother has to give the Maple Leafs a big leg up in negotiations.

This season, Tanev has nine goals and eight assists in 58 games, adding 117 hits, 91 blocks and only 8 PIM in 14:02 TOI.

One of the NHL's better defensive forwards, Tanev, can bring the tenacity head coach Craig Berube loves. He wouldn't cost Toronto as much as Brayden Schenn, but he would still command a decent price (a couple of picks and a prospect like Nikita Grebenkin).

He only makes $3.5M and will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, so his cap hit isn't the worst thing in the world. It's a bargain deal with a rising cap if he re-signs for reasonably cheap.

Given that the Maple Leafs don't have many premium assets, getting those top players ahead of teams like Vegas, Florida, Tampa and Winnipeg will be a bit harder, so shifting gears to a player like Tanev is a smart call.

Plus, he wants to win. With a weakened Eastern Conference compared to previous seasons, it's anyone's game, and Toronto needs to take advantage of every opportunity. Adding Tanev would be a great way to improve their lineup.

The Toronto Maple Leafs need to improve their bottom six by adding some scoring and defensive acumen, and one target is mutually interested in joining.

The NHL trade deadline is a week away, and speculation is running wild. Teams are preparing for a deep playoff push, and several clubs want to make a big splash to improve their rosters.

One in particular who is expected to be a big player is the Toronto Maple Leafs, linked to nearly every available name.

According to NHL insider Pierre LeBrun, one of the names they were looking at has a mutual interest in joining the team for several reasons.

Too expensive (cap) and not a premiere need.

Gotta have a 3C - if we don’t get this. Then we should do nothing. Without a solid Centre who can play tough mins and be defensively responsible - and chip in a goal here and there.

We have no chance to go far in the playoffs. My only caveat to this, is if we grabbed a Parayko making us elite on the backend.

Pie in the sky clickbait.

The stooges in Calgary wouldn't deal with Treliving for Zadorov or Tanev, they wouldn't even let the guy attend the freaking Draft when Toronto hired him.

I see no universe that the Calgary stooges deal with Treliving, unless it's it stupid overpay, and even then, I don't 100% believe the Calgary stooges will get over their butt-hurt to accept it.

Constant reminder that we screwed our chance to get Weegar and instead picked Brodie thanks to genius boy.......

If I'm in Treliving's position, I wouldn't even inquire about his availability. He had his chance to be, and stay a Leaf, and he ran away to Nashville to hide.
I don’t know how many times I have to say this but he left right after we commited
To Keefe. He left because Keefe. I’m sure he would love to play for the coach Henson a cup and mvp under.

So what? He disliked Keefe !!! Even more of a reason NOT to re-acquire him. He abandoned his Leaf teammates for a petty dislike of the head coach. He also abandoned the people of Ontario, his birth place!!!

f*** ROR !!!
