Yes, and they haven't been bad together. Strong shots for, strong possession... it's just that Tanev is REALLY good on the "defensive" pair, whether that is with OEL or McCabe. Tanev with those guys, makes the team better than with Rielly.

Only a couple of weeks left until we find out which way we go... or maybe we will be arguing over how mad we are they did nothing.
Exactly on the tanev rielly situation

Rielly McCabe and Rielly OEL have been... Ok... and that's about it. Not good, not bad...

Rielly is a talented player, but not exactly easy to find the right partner for... it's always been difficult.
Doesn’t play d much that’s why he’s good with stay at homes cause he never does

Kind of important to get the best out of Rielly, no? At least that's how I feel.

But CB has his preferences.

no one's going to make Mo look good defensively, you guys know this right?

What we also know, is it isn't critical to look good defensively, just to win those minutes, which has happened quite a bit.

When you are a +12 like Rielly and Brodie were in 21/22 (regular season) or +4 like Rielly and Boosh were after he was acquired, you are winning those minutes. Or nine goals for, two against, like Rielly and Schenn were in the 22/23 playoffs. Rielly and Boosh won their minutes last year too in the playoffs.. four goals for, one against.

Ultimately it doesn't matter if you aren't great defensively, it matters that you are winning your minutes.

I doubt it Savard bottom pair d murphy solid top 4 injury prone though so your right parayko should be first followed by murphy then the likes of a Savard

Rielly had Succes with Schenn and boosh who was bottom pair dman worst than Savard and they was excellent.

Do the difference between both will make us, oh wow what an amaizing impact who change everything or just meh, doesn't really change much thing and we wasted asset we could use to really upgrade the team somewhere else like 3C? Personally i think it would be close of option B

If exemple you've got Savard for a 3rd and a 4th pick and using the 1st and 2nd ( who should spend on Murphy) to exemple bring back Ryan O'reilly. Leafs would be a much better team than with murphy/ donato

It's at the point where this actually reminds me of a time over a decade ago where Montreal fans were asking "Maybe Mikhail Grabovski will get Alex Kovalev going!" - this is before Toronto acquired him.

I believe it was Claude Julien that said it's not up to a kid or anyone else to get going, Kovalev is a professional.

This is now where I am at with Rielly, we keep looking for guys to babysit Rielly and I am just tired of pretending he's not just ass defensively and the offense isn't there anymore.

I mean, you aren't wrong... but we have Rielly, and it looks like he's going to remain here. So, you've got to make the best of what you've got right?

I'd all be for trying to sign Chychrun as his replacement, and moving on from Rielly, but that doesn't have much of a chance of happening for multiple reasons.

It's not happening in season and I think in the off-season it is a sell job.

You've got SEA/CGY/EDM/VAN/LAK as maybe the only viable destinations just because his parents are in BC

I am not expecting to win the trade but if he doesn't waive, I probably give a buy out some serious consideration.

Roger that, but uf your a defensive liability in those minutes having a good partner won’t make a lick of a difference……..

It's a sell job to get him to waive.

The bigger issue might just be finding someone better. I do believe Chychrun is better, but I'd be shocked if Washington let him to get to UFA. Ekblad is another guy, but will Florida let him go? Provorov, who really isn't a PP replacement..... Pionk is a UFA....

It's kind of one of those things... see who is available July 1st, make an offer, and deal with Rielly after. The bigger issue isn't getting Rielly to move, it's finding someone who makes us better.

I'm not really sure where your logic is there? If you score nine goals, and only give up two, while on the ice, is there any relevance to your statement?

Rielly got married and stopped taking his job seriously. This is a guy that should be fired without additional pay for non compliance or whatever. He deserves a swift termination without penalty. It's been that bad.

While I agree we need a 3c I think a top 4 d is peril rielly is not that same player it would be foolish to assume he can turn it on when he’s ready schenn is not the same player from then either I say we go for a d and sprinkle for the 3c the forwards we have on this team if positioned properly should be able to get the job done

Everything people saying about Rielly right now, they said the same exact thing 2 year ago before Rielly just been fantastic vs tampa.

Rielly was a dman who liked to jointhe rush and producing from there but with a new system, he need to find an other way to get it done . Before 4 nation break, he showed good thing so let's see

Since then he hasn’t though in the two games out the break he’s been horrible and lazy Hes the Willy of defence and that’s scary cause I’d say Willy’s playing better d than he is

If I could "like" this 100 times I would

I think in the case of the Caps and the Panthers, if the players and the teams want to find a deal, they can get a deal done with the cap going upeven more than initially expected.

I think Pionk is definitely an option and Provorov is too.

Kovacevic is a guy I would like too but it would require an offensive LD, I do think Chychrun stays if he wants to.

We would probably need a Pionk AND a Provorov, to replace Rielly... that wouldn't be cheap, and I'm not sure how we'd fit that cap in. We'd need other people to take discounts, and I'm not sure that's happening.

Cap wages projects Provorov at $6.4 mil, Pionk at $6.9 Winnipeg has the cap space to make that work... I think Provorov goes UFA though... probably the only one that we've talked about who does.

Chych is projected at $7.84 mil. Ekblad at $6.8 mil.

I don't know how accurate Cap Wages has been in the past, but it's an interesting utility.

I was thinking 6-6.5M on Pionk, Chychrun and Provorov.

Pionk and Chychrun have defensive warts and in Chychrun's case, injury concerns.

Provorov is more all around

Ekblad...the legs are a concern, speed isn't amazing but maybe this whole cap going up thing has jolted things.

I'd been working off 4.5M x 4 on Kovacevic and then the cap going up even more, I figure it's at least 5x5.
