Leafs have never has a Norris Trophy winner in their entire history, so the fit is there.

Yes, some very good defenders just play through HOF defender careers.

Leafs haven't had one challenging that since Salming, and I doubt Dobson will be that.

Salming runner-up twice top 5, 7 times.

Love to have someone who is top 5 in the NHL 7 times once again.

It would be nice but with our history of drafting and developing defenseman I'm not holding my breath

He’s still he’s a good player but I think that 70 point season was an outlier.
Not sure about that. 70 pints with the pop-gun Isles offense is unusual. They were not a top 20 team offensively last season. Compare that to Mo's breakout year where the Leafs were top 4 in scoring. I suspect he could be a lot more productive feeding the Leaf offense. An improved Mo playing on the right solves major issues for the next several years. I just think they will get better offers than what the Leafs can put together.

Of course he could be question is how do we get him on the roster and Rielly off

Yes it would. Not sure that’s a cheap package to acquire.
Definitely wouldn’t be cheap, and it doesn’t really solve our 3C issue. But Carlo on the backend would be a nice addition given his size, reach and being right handed.

I suggested Parayko months ago but some said he did not bring enough offence. The same is true for Carlo.

Combo Deals

1. Ryan O'Reilly - (4.5M per for 3 years) + Luke Schenn - (50% retained - 1.375M per for 2 years)

2. Brad Marchand - (50% retained - 3.062M for 1 year) + Charlie Coyle - (50 retained - 2.625M per for 2 years) or Trent Frederic - (50% retained - 1.15M for 1 year)

3. Dylan Cozens - (7.1M per for 6 years) + Peyton Krebs - (1.45M per for 2 years) or Jordan Greenway - (50% retained - 1.5M for 1 year)

4. Scott Laughton - (3M per for 2 years) + Rasmus Ristolainen - (50% retained - 2.55M per for 3 years)

5. Brandon Tanev - (50% retained - 1.75M for 1 year) or Yanni Gourde - (50% retained - 2.583M for 1 year) + Jamie Oleksiak - (50% retained - 2.3M per for 2 years)

6. Ryan Donato - (50% retained - 1M for 1 year) + Connor Murphy - (50% retained - 2.2M per for 2 years)

7. Jake Evans - (50% retained - 850K for 1 year) or Christian Dvorak - (50% retained - 2.225M for 1 year) + David Savard - (50% retained - 1.75M for 1 year)

Combo deals have been common in recent years with Toronto. Are there any other good potential combo deals out there that have potential to squeeze under the salary cap?
So who you gonna trade great combos if your trading rataanan

Carlo should come a lot cheaper than Parayko.

Also I think acquiring Carlo would be mainly to be paired with Rielly but I think he’d make a fantastic defensive partner for OEL on our second pair.

Ekman Larsson - Carlo

But then we run into our original issue findi my a defensive partner for Rielly lol…

Wouldn't mind flipping Benoit and a pick to Nashville for Schenn at 50%

McCabe - Tanev
Rielly - Schenn
OEL - Carlo

*Doesn't have to be Benoit either, ideally keep him as the #7, and trade Dewar/Timmins instead.

I’ve been battling the Parayko ignorance thing for years now. The guy took on a purely defensive role when Pietrangelo left for Vegas. His offense didn’t get worse, he just stopped getting PP time.

Carlo actually does have offensive deficiencies.

I think the Schenn brothers will probably be reunited in Toronto.

33 year old Brayden Schenn at $6.5m
35 year old Luke Schenn at $2.75m

…… for God knows what going out the door in the way of picks and prospects…

Excuse me for feeling completely underwhelmed and not liking any of it.

Overpriced bandaids that don’t fit a long term plan, costing us our limited picks and prospects is just gross.

Either get better in a meaningful way, or accept we aren’t going to win the Stanley Cup this year, keep your picks/prospects, get better during my UFA and make trades that make sense and aren’t settling for anything less than what you really need.

Schenn/Schenn/Laughton/Evans/Savard just scream lazy-ass GM’ing.

We need better.

How do we get better when we have Robertson, Kampf, Minten, Niemela, Cowan, Steeves, Abruzzese, Timmins and a few draft picks to offer other teams for their young, cost controlled good players?

Who is the best player that you think Cowan, Robertson and a 2026 1st gets us?

A trade to a better offensive team could have the Karlsson effect instead though. Other than Barzal, no one on the Isles is a good puck carrier, if a greasy pinball goal is scored by anyone else there’s a good chance Dobson got a touch on the transition same as how Karlsson put up 100. I don’t think that’s a bad thing necessarily, if he puts up the same points but they’re more skewed to PP bombs and carrying the puck for our 3rd liners that’s a win, I just wouldn’t trade for and pay him with the expectation that playing with stars means he’s suddenly a 80-90 point guy.
