Trades & Free Agency Thread: 2024-2025 - Trade Deadline Approaches

Empty the prospects, and picks... 2026, 1017 1st, Minten, Cowan, Reaves (for cap reasons) for Crosby at 50%.

I'm at $23k over the cap limit, with a 23 man roster. Easy enough to fix. Send Kampf packing for example.

I'd still want to upgrade the RD somehow.. though I'm kind of short on trade chips at this point, though the forward group looks pretty good.

Knies Matthews Domi

McMann Crosby Marner
Robertson Tavares Nylander
Lorentz Holmberg Dewar
Patches.

Not in reference to you or your post, but I think some posters seem like hoarders.

Keep everything, even if there is no value.

Just because you liked that suitcase you bought 25 years ago, doesn't mean you have to hoard it. Just let it go.
Put it on Kijiji for a week. If no takers donate it to Goodwill.

I usually just skip step 1 and take it to Goodwill.

If the team needs less than $1mm in space, just waive someone.

I moved Kampf, plus 2025 2nd, 2025 3rd and Niemela for Gudas @50%. Ya, they made him captain, blah, blah... LOL... It's my fantasy...

So my lineup looks like.

Knies Matthews Domi
McMann Crosby Marner
Robertson/Patches Tavares Nylander
Lorentz Holmberg Dewar

Rielly Gudas
McCabe Tanev
OEL Benoit/Timmins

I've got $1.1 mil left in cap space. Maybe you even add Jarnkrok in the playoffs... if he's suddenly healthy enough.

At this point, I don't care about picks... just spend all the future currencies, and load the team up...

Things I've learned over the last few pages.

1. If the Leafs re-sign Tavares and/or Marner and you continue to support the team, you are not a serious fan.
2. You must use 'critical thinking' and discuss potential moves you would make and have no control over in order to be considered a 'serious fan'.

Good lord. Get a grip.

The post I quoted said serious fans will support the team no matter what decisions the front office makes. Do you agree with that?

Yeah, I don't see Crosby having any interest ...

But I agree get the best center with term you can regardless of price.
And if possible get a defender that can cover up Rielly's warts.

Empty the cupboard, this team has Matthews current contract to get it done.

Then they have to hire Horachek the 2nd.

We supported the team through many owners, and the 80's.

Being crap in the playoffs isn't exactly a hardship!
Putting up with entitled posters, who are constantly angry at the players/coach/management, that they haven't been given their cup yet, as a moderator probably counts as a hardship.

But if the Leafs re-sign Marner and/or Tavares, you will no longer be a fan correct? Because no serious fan would stick around for that, right?
I will always be a fan of the team. I will not be a fan of Treliving and will actively root for him to be fired for continuing to steer the team further from a cup.

Ah - so you're just like the rest of us. An unserious fan that will cheer for the team regardless.

Yet you passive aggressively continue to speak down on people for simply disagreeing with some of the putrid trade proposals you suggest.

I will actively cheer for every player and manager on the team, on the hopes that they do win the cup. I want everyone to succeed, no matter how much I disagree with decisions, or how bad their play is. Once they are gone, I won't care what they do, or whether they succeed or fail elsewhere.

Now, now, boys...

Not everyone needs to love every player and manager, particularly the latter. And they should be viewed with a healthy level of objectivity and skepticism. Burke, Babcock and Dubas should let anyone know that making an idol of a manager/coach is a fool's game.

Personally it bothers me when the players demand more money than they're comparables and put the team at a disadvantage. This is equally a management issue. There's a very real chance that the two best players to ever play for the Leafs are currently on the roster and they will go their whole career with the Leafs with <5 series wins.

No shade to Marner whatsoever, but he’s not the type of player Crosby would likely excel with.

Highly doubtful Marner would be the reason he would or wouldn’t come here.
Eh I dunno about that. I'm not a Mitch fanboy at all, but Marner has historically shown he does well with the hybrid skilled grinder type Cs. Him and JT have had great chemistry in the past and he also was very productive playing alongside Kadri. It forces him to be more dynamic and drive play.

Will there be trades ... minor league but ... yes.

Marner is a much more dynamic and motivated player away from Matthews.

He can mesh with anyone and bring a playmaker’s dynamic to anyone on his line.

With Matthews, Marner is almost one dimensional and a much lesser version of himself. I don’t blame the players as much as I blame the coaches and management for stapling them together, to the detriment of the team.

Nice to see Crosby getting love, but he’s either staying in Pittsburgh or going to Colorado to play with MacKinnon.

He has no connection to Toronto and no motivation to come here. If he wants to win another Cup, Toronto isn’t where you go for it, period. We just aren’t there. Colorado is.

Love the big game hunting thinking but it’s all pretty pie in the sky stuff. Combine how weak we are with assets and picks and Treliving not making significant moves here, I think we are looking at small moves here and then seeing who makes it through to UFA.

I don’t see major moves here at all.
