Trades & Free Agency Thread: 2024-2025 - Trade Deadline Approaches

I don't see Marner accepting this trade. Maybe he signs there in the off-season but I don't see him allowing the Leafs to trade him.
Why does he hate Toronto so much? Out of spite? To be an ass? More greed?

Dubas will give himwhat he wants

I think it's pride that will keep him from accepting a trade. I'm not sure what it is but all the reporting that's out there is that he won't accept a trade anywhere (but the Leafs need to be the highest bidder for him to re-sign for some reason).

Just saying sid gets us a lot closer to a cup than Mitch. Who is going to argue that?

I think if Crosby wanted to come here it would be to play with Marner…

So does that mean Nylander goes the other way?
Ha ha funny. Nylander was making time and space for himself out there when he wasn't costing Sweden goals (lol). Willy shit the bed bad.

He’s come to play with all of them. The froth blinds some from rational thought.
Colorado would be the front runner regardless if he decides to move.

Basically Colorado is the only option, if Montreal was at a different point in their competitive cycle, maybe them.

I think Mittelstadt and something else would be the expectation for the return.

I posted this last night in the Canada thread but want to reiterate in the trade thread what the expectation should be for high paid players:

Canada's PP1:
Crosby - 8.7M
Makar - 9M
McDavid - 12.5M
MacKinnon - 12.6M
Reinhart - 8.625M
Sum: 51.425M (4F/1D)

Toronto's PP1:
Matthews - 13.25M
Nylander - 11.5M
Rielly - 7.5M
Tavares - 11M
Marner 10.9M
Sum: 54.15M (4F/1D)

What we saw last night (for 12 seconds) is what the expectation should be for a 50M power play. Coincidentally I would take the Canada 5 in all facets of the game over the Toronto 5.

Who wouldn't? Hell, I'd take 29 and 97 alone over the Leafs 5.

No shade to Marner whatsoever, but he’s not the type of player Crosby would likely excel with.

Highly doubtful Marner would be the reason he would or wouldn’t come here.

Can we find a way to trade Domi and have a McMann - - McBain - - McCann line?

Pretty much ends any debate of whether or not they overpaid the core.

Not saying they are not overpaid, but it would make more sense to post % of Cap at Time of Signing.

No it wouldn’t. We are talking about cap hits this season. % of the cap at signing means nothing for the cap in any given season. A teams % of cap at signing can sum over 100% but in real life you can not go over the salary cap.

They wouldn't have to be on the same line. He'd come for a chance to win, that would be to join the group.
