We need defencemen who can move the puck and score. Also who shoot from the right. Soucy is good, but does he make that much of an upgrade?

I would say they might not win a Cup but definety be closer to one than our current four

Which one did we win?
McD is better than Matty.
Barkov is better than JT.
Mack is better than MM.
Tkachuk has a slight edge over Willie.
You changed the order.

McD is better than Matty.
Mack is better than Mitch.
Willy is better than Barkov.
Tkachuk is better than JT.

Even your way, Willy and Tkachuk are just about even, so "lose 3 of 4" is still accurate.

There isn't much that would be better than what we have for right handers that's available or attainable. So the Leafs might have to sacrifice handedness for quality. This is where pro scouting has to get it right

If we include Domi and Jarnkrok and Hakanpaa both stay on LTIR until the playoffs, we can fit Cozens in…

Jarnkrok was never on the Leafs active roster to begin with. They got themselves to $1 cap space with him on LTIR.

If you assume the roster has Hakanpaa and Jarnkrok on LTIR; you're basically looking at a 23-man roster with about $700k of cap hit thst you can add.

Wouldn't mind some "change of scenery" type of moves, something around like Robertson for Krebs or Minten for Korczak for example that can hopefully pay off long term, but fully expecting depth moves only. Risk/reward moves where younger-ish players who haven't reached their potential yet may be able to with a different opportunity.
why does Minten need a change of scenery?

Man if only Soucy was a RD...would've been icing on the cake. But regardless he should be a target.

I believe he has experience playing on the right side correct? Can anyone confirm

Even if he has experience on RHD, you are bringing in a guy to play to 70-80% of his capabilities.

Did we watch the game yesterday with Rielly and OEL, 2 LHD paired, who couldn’t receive simple passes to each other to break out because it is harder to cleanly receive and move a pass on the back hand?

Enough LhD plugs on the right side. Other teams have embarrassing RHD. Why can’t we?

Agreed - they have to acquire a RHD. We need all of Rielly, McCabe, and OEL playing their strong side come playoff time.

McCabe - Tanev
Rielly - X
OEL - Myers
Benoit - Timmins

One of if not the single best and steadiest fit next to Rielly was a lefty playing his off side in Hainsey. Pre collapse Brodie was also excellent.

Throwing a lefty that's never played the right is a recipe for disaster. But someone that has spent a good chunk of their career and development playing the right? They've got the familiarity, they've learned to overcome the inherent difficulty

In that case Connor Murphy probably will be a target, especially if Chicago ends up retaining 50% like Frank suggested.

Would be like the McCabe trade all over. Even McCabe wasn't playing as well at the time with Chicago, so Murphy could come relatively cheap

Murphy (50%) + Donato? Donato's not my 1st choice for the 3rd line/3C role, but would probably be cheaper than other options available, and adds secondary scoring.

I would like that but Donato is apprently one of the softest players Blackhawks fans have ever seen, so idk if trelviing/berube would.

I can see two Separate trades where we get Connor Murphy and Luke Kunin

Is a Soucy what we need though? He's mostly played LD this year, and is really a 3rd pairing guy.

I just don't see it. I see a need for guys like Murphy, Gudas, Schenn, Parayko, I'd say Larsson (But he just got extended), even Peeke....

I see the need for more of a puck moving guy... but I think stabilizing Mo is just as important... and any good partner of his, can defer to him to move the puck more...as predictable as that can get.

Still rather add two top 9 forwards then add a top 9 forward and d-man.

Unless Toronto is getting a stud d-man, it's not the difference between winning and losing. Never has been the issue come playoff time, don't think it'll be a issue again this playoff time.

Yea that's the impression I got from Blackhawk fans who've watched him too.

Would prefer Kunin as well, and ideally offload a contract or two back since they have no retention spots left.

The cost is the one thing that can make you forgo the RHD aspect. You need to make sure that LHD can play RD though, which is always risky. I think you're hoping to get a Schenn kind of player from Soucy but 5 years younger. The cost to acquire seems relatively low which makes it interesting. He was really solid the previous seasons.

Murphy might be the more sensible to acquire without breaking the bank if there's no retention. Gudas isn't getting traded, he was named captain of the Ducks recently. Schenn is ok but likely going to continue to regress, the boat as sailed there despite his last stint working well. Parayko will cost a lot to acquire and cap makes it tough to fit.
