You don't think that it's possible to add scoring depth by spending $4 million on a 3C, and $3 million on a 2LW? Hell, maybe you could go as high as $5 million on a 3C if you can get the Tavares AAV down a little bit and / or take a little bit of cap from the 2LW or 3RD spot.

JMO, but I think you can find a perfectly good scoring 3C for $4-$5 million. Without even exploring the trade market, pending UFAs that come to mind include Matt Duchene, Mikael Granlund and Sam Bennett.
Maybe you give JT your 3C money and your JT money to Bennett.

It all depends on the playoffs. If we are out early we have to try something different. 8 years of the same.

You know how much you hate Treliving? That's how much I hated Dubas. The big difference I see is that one isn't "creative" enough, and the other made a series of franchise crippling decisions.

There's a lot of time for the 2nd part to happen...

I also don't hate Treliving at all. If he turns it around, he'll earn praise. He hasn't really done anything.

Starting to lose patience with both Treliving and Berube.

With the flurry of activity already happening, I don't see what Treliving is waiting for. Our needs are specific and clear. We've watched potential 2C/3C's moved, and there already wasn't much to begin with.

We clearly cannot put OEL on RHD and Rielly needs a better partner.

At this point, I'm calling Chicago now for a Ryan Donato/Connor Murphy deal. It make so much sense it hurts. It's not paying a premium, and it fills 2 glaring holes with guys with some term and some upside.

Berube and his lineup decisions are becoming glaringly overly simplistic. His refusal to break up Marner and Matthews despite a shortage of scoring throughout the lineup, particularly down 2 Top 6 players shows , is just beyond comprehension.

You are down 2 Top 6 forwards, and you staple 2 top 3 players together, even though they aren't doing shit together, are entirely too easy to defend, and both become lazy one dimensional players together, and much worse than the dynamic players they are apart. Absolutely ridiculous.

Hanging on to Reaves, forcing Holmberg anywhere/everywhere into the lineup, keeping Steeves on the Marlies, this team doesn't show any creativity nor desire to acknowledge and pivot when things aren’t working.

How are we supposed to have any confidence going into the playoffs that anything different than previous years disappointments are going to continue?

In the interim, we sit and watch players that could have helped us move to teams that aren't even in position the way we are, and we are fine continuing to fit square pegs into round holes and believing we are going to do any kind of damage in the playoffs.

We've always complained about the lack of give a crap from the players. It now feels like it's spread to the Management group as well.

Very frustrating and disappointing to watch. Dubas was an idiot and Keefe was stale, but the "new blood" seems committed to same old same old. Not sure what they think will happen differently if things are left as they are.

Common trades!!!

I don't know why everyone is so quick to write off Yanni Gourde after this injury .. it's 5-7 weeks. That's a month before the end of the season.

We could probably get him for pennies on the dollar.

All I'm saying is If it comes down to Gourde vs Kunin at the same acquisition price, I'm taking Gourde all day long.

Both are 3rd. line players, who could replace lessor Leafs.

Gourde 5'9", 174, 33 years old.
Kunin 6', 197, 27 years old.
Face offs
49.9 Gourde
48.2 Kunin

We have enough broken down players. Putting our eggs into that basket makes very little sense even if he's practically free. He'll need time to rehab and get back into game shape and before you know it, it's playoffs time. If all Treliving can do is trade for a player that just had surgery, then he made his bed.
He doesn't even get them after the surgery. He signed two Nordic defencemen that had two good legs between them.

sleepy Brad

The fact that he's been here for 1.5 years and made no trades of significance is embarrassing. Expect nothing different

Again, a depth players isn't going to make the difference on a team that isn't a favorite.
And 5 years ago, is a very long time for a 33 year old NHLer.
4 years ago, he was 11th. in points for the Lightning, however he scored 6 goals which was good for 5th. on the team, which was the defending Cup champs, and a favorite once Kucherov came back, probably on a team over the Cap.

He'll provide some depth, but the Leafs aren't a favorite. Just throwing away assets for a short term depth rental.

But thanks for your input.

If they are not one of favorite what are they?!?!?! they're #1 (win%) in their division, 3rd in the east despite at lot of injury to key player.

Leafs have won one game past the first round with this version of the team. We’re favourites to bet on losing in the first round. lol.

The only difference is Barbashev, Lehkonen, Coleman and Goodrow were all in their mid 20s basically and in their or entering their prime. Gourde is well past that. Not saying he wouldn’t be a good addition, he would be a solid pickup but I’m afraid of the cost given his resume with the Lightning and age.

1- Gourde is early 30s, we dont talk about a 37-38 yo player. He can still bring a lot to a team

2-For sure everything depend of the cost

The problem isn’t depth scoring, it’s scoring in general. We have enough firepower up front to do damage if the big guns actually played well.

I might still lean towards getting a Center because if Tavares or Matthews go down then we’re screwed, but I also get wanting to shore up D. Take care of the D and Goaltending and hope the stars can play to their potential - if they don’t then we aren’t winning regardless of a new C or D.
When have the stars ever gotten it done in the playoffs?
If Rielly is hurt, why doesn’t Berube and/or Tre sit him out or put him on IR? He hasn’t even been a top 4 dman this season. We need a top 4 dman, or even someone like Schenn, who played well with him while he was here. But we definitely need some depth scoring, because it has hurt us every playoffs since this core, and maybe more specifically Keefe, has been here. But of course it’s hard to get these type of players with so much tied up in the core.

Boeser had 73 pts last year and 40 goals in 81GP, he is on pace for 63 pts
Ehlers had 61 pts in 82 gp last year and on pace for 88 pts
151 pts for 15-16M vs 90 pts for 12.5-13M?
You being opposed to that is actually a hilariously bad take.
Rakell (5m) is on pace for 68 points and Bunting (4.5m) is on pace for 43 points. Matthews (13.25m) is on pace for 87 points. 111 points for 9.5m vs. 87 points for 13.25m? Easy trade! How could anybody be opposed?!?

Let's take this a step further! McDavid is pacing for 122 points, and he costs 12.5m.
If we offer them McMann, Domi, Pacioretty, and Holmberg, they get 123 points for just the low, low price of 7.4m. They won't be able to resist!

I'm not sure you should be accusing others of "hilariously bad takes" when you're not only attempting stuff like this, but in a really misleading way. Why did you represent the one side of the equation by their half-season paces this year (22 points higher than their previous 3 year average), and then represent Marner's side as "90 points", when Marner is pacing for 109 points (and has paced for more than 90 points for 7 straight years, and 101 points over that entire timeframe)?

Is it because you realized that even aside from all of the other issues with your comparison, filling that ~30 point pace gap those 2 players have had over 1 player over the past 3 years for the ~4-5m difference that they'll actually cost or less is actually pretty easy?
