Trades & Free Agency Thread: 2024-2025 - Trade Deadline Approaches

Sure but I don't think their GM makes the original trade unless he's confident he can make a competitive offer to Rantanen, they have a ton of cap flexibility
They had the inside track on Guenzel and he signed in Tampa for $9M x 7. I can't see them paying Rantanen $12M unless maybe if he brings them a Cup.

Wingers don't make Franchise guys. Only if they are Ovi. Rantanen isn't Franchise material

He's a dynamic player who scores lots of highlight reel goals.

He'll absolutely be marketed to fans as a franchise guy no matter where he ends up this summer.

Especially for a team like the Canes looking to sell the sport to a southern market

He was brought up a lot as a buy low player. He's not expensive right now, he's a capable center and from the area. He isn't perfect or amazing. We don't have have a 40 point 25 year old center. Not sure what he has to do with Domi. We'll see how he does in Calgary but I suspect he'll fit in nicely and it'll be another opportunity lost.
This is what Domi was supposed to be for us at 3.75m. Frost will be looking to double his money, that's around 8m between the two. I'm not fussed over Tre passing on this one. Frost is more of what we already have and reading the tea leaves, I think management prefer to aim higher there.

Aim higher? Who exactly? You're gonna have to get a player around the cap hit one way or another.

And Domi is not the same player at all. Not sure why we can't add another player just because Domi sucks right now.

I think it's a solid deal for them. Chytil is underrated, just needs to stay healthy, and Mancini is a pretty good 6'3" RHD prospect. And also a first.
It's not a bad deal for Vancouver, when everyone knows that Miller is a cancer in the dressing room right and there big tension.

Not sure what the Rangers are trying to accomplish.. Are they back to trying to win again?

Tavares will be on the team next year, I am guessing they're aiming for a hybrid 3C who can move up to 2C for an extended period/going forward. I don't know who that is, but Morgan Frost ain't that guy.

Vancouver got fleeced here.

Well, certainly throws cold water on the Canucks fans eBay buy now price, suggesting Miller is a recent 100 point player, yada yada. You don't get value for a dramatic situation like this. They won't get value for EP40 either.

I doubt they move EP40m, after moving Miller.

Would Robertson, Niemela and our 2nd be enough to start talks with LA about Clarke. Or are they not interested in moving him and just speculation because he was healthy scratched?

I would doubt it, unfortunately. They've really nerfed Niemela's value by not even using him in pre-season because of CB's height fetish.

They've also got a few guys who are basically Robertson as well: Turcotte, Fagemo, Thomas.

For Clarke, you are likely talking about Cowen, Minten, and next year's 1st being the stuff they'd be after.
