Trades & Free Agency Thread: 2024-2025 - Trade Deadline Approaches

Risky idea:

Say Mitch leaves in the summer, would you consider trading for Josh Norris for 2c?

The positive
-when he plays, he can be a 30 goal guy (trending for 30 this year)
-still young
-fast, 2-way center
-decent size (6'2)
-cap hit of 7.9 million
-if Marner is gone and JT is way cheaper, you still have a lot of money left over to address other needs
-given the length of his contract and his injury history, can he be had for cheap? Probably less than other 2c's.

The negative
-injuries!! so far, so good this year, but it's a big concern
-His cap hit isn't bad, but he's signed until 2029-30. That's a long time.

Read about his current stats here:

Thoughts?
Funny enough, before Mitch’s NMC kicked in I pitched the idea of Norris and one of the high picks OTT had (to pick a D) for him.
Now, I can’t see it.

I've had enough of these old retreads

if we're giving up assets let's go younger with an eye beyond this season, hitting on some draft picks or getting lucky rolling the dice on a young guy "change of scenery" type wouldn't hurt right now

it has to happen sometime for us

I agree with this sentiment... but at the same time still want to sign Kessel

Treliving making a trade to add long-term? Unlikely.

If Mitch ends up walking, Treliving will probably look at signing Jamie Benn and Brent Burns with the money.
If that happens we need waffles thrown on the ice again

Waffles, Jerseys, and anything else.

Walking away from marner instead of signing him to a big overpayment is fine

Going after washed old former stars is a receipie to transition this team to the 2019-2020 San Jose Sharks

It was mostly tongue in cheek. I'd expect him to sign a couple highly priced players to replace the one that's leaving, for better or worse.

Who Saad?

For a team like Leafs with so few assset to trade, if they can get a deadline- like aquistion for free then go for it.

I agree with trying to take chances on younger players who need a new team. That's exactly what they need to be doing, and I've got a list of about 5-10 that they should go for.

Boqvist (RD) is making peanuts and currently on waivers at the age of 24, easily take him over Timmins

This means Faarabee and Frost have been extremely overrated by some.

Kuzmenko is more or less a dump.

Their value weren't that high to begin with. But they aren't 35 years old. Farabee in particular is a fantastic bet by the Flames.

We need a center and Frost is that. We need better forward quality and Frost provides that. He's turning 26 in May so he probably doesn't much room to get better but on pace for over 40 points, and he had 41 points last season. 18-19 goal scorer. If he was available for a dump and a tweener... the Leafs again dropped the ball, but we'll see the picks involved I guess.

When are they going to report the picks the Flames added?

If there isn't a bunch of picks going to Philly I'm going to be unhappy

Frost is a 40 point center, so better than what we've got and Farabee is a solid dice roll on a young guy with upside
