Well if MM and Leafs can’t come to terms, so it will be either that or MM walks for nothing. Have to take the deal.would you pull the trigger?

Canes I think are one of the more aggressive teams out there in terms of player management next to Vegas. From offer sheets, to trades to signings. Not only that, but they draft amazingly well.
Their one big issue for a long long time has been goaltending though... and that hasn't changed. It's their big time weakness.
I'd be shocked if the Canes don't re-sign him, but I think they are ok with taking a big swing to get a cup run going.
Probably the 2nd best scoring winger in the league after Kuch. 14 million a bit too much for him IMO and its rumored the Canes wernt signing Necas anyways. I wonder how Rantanen playing away from MacKinnon is going to look. Lets just say there is a substantial drop in his play when not having Mack as his center. Going to a rock solid defensive team/system might be a great fit though.
Or he will get more goals and points as he will be the top dog in Canes, lol.I expect there could be a dip, but he can score, so his game isn't based on someone else scoring.
From 2020-2021 to today he is 5th. in scoring (goals). In points he's 4th., behind Connor, Leon, Nathan.
It was discussions. There was no agreement or finalized deal. Even Dreger said that, and noted that it "never reached a stage where Fleury was asked officially to waive". The reason was Toronto's unwillingness to move futures like Knies. Toronto never put him on the table. They reportedly laughed at the idea.I will explain you something, we didn't talk about about offer leafs got but about an aborted deal..when we saying a deal had been aborted. That's meaning they had discussion with all the piece on the table, they got basically an agreement but for a reason like someone refuse to waive a clause or a GM changing his mind at last second ( or got vetoed) or took an other offer somewhere else... result at the trade didn't happen... So yes Knies had been included in discussion and was not a non-starter like you said

That probably cuts both ways. Wouldn’t be shocked if MacKinnons production takes a hit.
Chicago didn't do that well on this deal.
A 3rd. rounder for retention and Hall.
Guess the retention is just the Hall dollars.
Hall just a dump then?
Yeah, especially given the Canes haven't quite had that very deep run yet, there's a lot of overlooked value from their POV of bringing in a guy whose a confined playoffs performer. Going to be a fun story to follow.
Also something getting overlooked is how awful this was for the Hawks. I really don't know what to think about their management group
They should have been able to get at least a 3rd for Hall alone at the tdl.
Either Davidson is a moron, or he's been promised a big favor down the line by both teams.
Honestly, think it may be the former
they should go all in thenFor sure... that will really help the Cup aspirations.

Too late for that. It already did.Everyone needs to calm the f*** down. Every trade made in the league doesn't need to cause an absolute shit storm here.
No, that's not what was reported. It was reported that Knies was a non-starter for both Shanahan and Dubas. That was explicitly confirmed by Friedman. He was never on the table from the Leaf's side, and the discussions fell apart before it got anywhere serious. What's had been reported was leafs finally rejected was the price was too high with 2 1st pick AND Knies to make it happen, again not because Knies was a non-starter.
And its couple of week/days later, we started to heard than Shanahan was the real reason why leafs declined and Dubas was ready to make the move

The Offer sheet was more of a spite move, retaliation on Montreal for trying to sign Aho.
Leivo keeps tearing it up
