Rielly can 'hack' it with Tanev.

Tanev and McCabe have just been really good together. Some of you need to dial it down a couple notches.
Honestly, I don’t get the Rielly hate.

How much of an opportunity did he really get to play with Tanev before Bérubé saw that McCabe-Tanev was a top pairing?

Looking at the partners Rielly has had, including last year, all of them were below his skill level, I like Myers and Timmins but they aren’t on Rielly’s level.

Would very much like to see Rielly paired with someone like Matt Roy or Connor Murphy, and he gets a pass from me until he actually has someone with experience and a skill level to match.

You can’t play top 4 with a partner that belongs most generously as a 6D, but really are 7/8’d on other playoff teams.

Guy is a trooper and team player, and we’ve saddled him with a bunch of meh partners, including a bunch of LHD playing their offside.

Get him a consistent partner like Parayko or Murphy and see what he does.

Murphy makes so much sense it hurts.

Nemec is also an interesting idea, but would have loved to have added Roy.

He's had shit partners his entire career outside of 2.5 seasons with Brodie and has never complained. He's having a bad 40 games (below his standard) and people are talking about him like he's Aki Berg.

Truly a joke of a fanbase sometimes.

He's been horrible for 2 seasons and getting worse. He's a 3 million dollar (being generous) offensive dman who's not providing offense, he's clueless 90% of the time.

Mirtle has mentioned it a few times that the belief is he would’ve signed if Toronto matched Washington’s offer
Mirtle believes that Tre made a mistake that Dubus would not have made? There are a number of "sports journalists" that keep a light on in their window at night in case Dubus tries to find his way back. Mirtle keeps a giant strobe light in his.

How are his former partners doing on their new teams?

Are Boosh and Brodie killing it? How is Schenn doing? Where are they slotting into the lineup of their respective teams?

Who wouldn’t want to be tied at the hip to those guys?

They're also not making 7.5 million, when a 7.5 million dollar dman constantly needs to be paired with someone who will cover his many defencies that's a problem, it was fine at 4.5 sure as shit ain't fine at 7.5 million

Boosh has actually been a top 4 D man for Dallas this year and recently moved up to the top pairing.

Edy has been a top 4 D man on LA this year as well. In retrospect, pretty good business Tre picking them up for nothing and a two million cap hit.

Setting aside the general enforcer debate for a moment, Reaves isn’t even that. Just the definition of half hearted and half assing your job.

He's also one of the oldest forwards in the league.

His caphit is too much to pay at the moment for angry to be a cheerleader from the bench

Crouse hasn’t had the best season to date, but it’s someone I would bet on to bounce back.

Crouse + Bjugstad (50% retained)

Edmundson is LHD. Neither is playing to their strengths on their off-side.

Boosh simply was not great here annd was miscast as a top pairing defenseman.

With the arrival of Tanev, Boosh was much better to drop to the second pairing, but he didn’t resign.

As it was, he was poorly suited for 1st line duty, and they weren’t good enough.

The same could have been said last year when Florida added Tarasenko on the cheap.

They had good center depth though. Barkov, Lundell, Reinhart (played as a winger but took draws), Bennett and Stenlund. They also had Cousins but he only played 2 games in the playoffs.

If we're ok with Domi as our 3rd line center, with Holmberg, Dewar and Minten next in line, then I guess winger it is.

Rielly’s skating looks really sluggish, very heavy footwork to the eye.

Haven’t cracked open the telemetry stats to look at top speed and speed bursts, but I would venture to guess that acceleration is a problem and so is top speed. How many times does it look like he’s getting beat on a defensive foot race?

On the agility side, do you ever see Rielly with the lateral mobility and footwork of other D? Last night vs Lane Hutson, or two nights ago vs Luke Hughes? It’s a different animal.

His skating was always a strong suit, both in speed and agility. It definitely feels like it has regressed to some degree though I don't disagree. I'm not sure why it's fair to compare him to Hutson since he's probably a world class skater at his age, but I would say he's in a similar ballpark to someone like Fowler or McAvoy. He's still a great passer and can be dangerous in transition.

He'll bounce back.

Yeah I think I prefer a center, even if it's just a guy like Bjugstad

Domi can play center but he's not trustworthy enough defensively to play center with any level of comfort

Just nerding out on the topic a little more, Rielly is more of a stocky build power skater like a Nathan Mackinnon… he’s great on a Lone Ranger rush or as the trailing man streaking in straight line speed. He really doesnt have the dynamism of the next generation brand of point guard defensemen a la Hughes or Hutson. Doesn’t have the long elegant stride of a Makar. McAvoy is a similar build for sure. Probably bulkier and better laterally.
