It would be incredibly difficult to fit Cozens in cap wise this year though. I'm not sure how it would be done. I don't mind the idea terribly, as much as I'd hate to move Knies... and we'd be weak on LW. Maybe a double retained Zucker thrown in?

I'm of the opinion that this group of forwards are the ones who have to figure it out. If this "elite" group of forwards, all making North of $10 million, need a TDA to help them score on the PP, the problem isn't really TDA or Rielly.... They've actually got a lot to figure out, consistency, effort, and how to play in the playoffs.
If they have not figured it out after all these playoff disappointments, odds are they never do. Maybe it is not in their DNA or they bleed green, not blue and white.

I’d rather be weak at LW than C.

As far as cap goes this year - they can fit him in if they shed the dead cap (Reaves, Jarnkrok, Timmins or Hakanpaa) and Kampf.
Hakanpaa and Jarnkrok aren't currently dead cap... at least in that way.

We'd need to bring in a winger to fill out the roster, as we just don't have enough bodies once these guys are moved. Jordan Greenway at 50%, if Buffalo doesn't want to extend him... he's a UFA. It would be best for us to pick up another winger near league minimum as well.

Appreciating that McMann, Robertson, Patches, Domi or Patches end up being our 1LW.

I would avoid the Buffalo wingers because I’m not a fan but I understand your point.

Maybe Jarnkrok returns and fills a top 9 wing.

Then make a trade? Address it with a proper addition of some kind? He might be better than last time around and on a cheap deal maybe it's worth the gamble but I dunno where he fits even if he does well. Is he better than Timmins or even Hakanpaa? Maybe adding him makes the Leafs turn around for a trade or something, we'll see.

DeAngelo is a terrible human and he's been kicked off teams left right and center. Let him rot in the KHL. I don't understand why anyone would want him. There is no way a huge team like the Leafs ever bother with a clown show like that.
You don't have to tell me, that's what I've been waiting for him to do. Tre has definitely disappointed me in the trade department.

Maybe, but cap doesn't fit, if you obtain Cozens. I just did Buffalo, as we would have a need, and already doing a deal with them... and maybe Greenway doesn't extend with them... he's been better in the past, than with Buffalo... Sabres curse... big body, playoff style hockey though. Would need to add one, maybe two wingers, from somewhere.

It would be prudent to give Steeves some time higher up in the lineup, to see if he can play with more offensive players, before going an obtaining someone. He's having such a good year in the AHL, and deserves a shot somewhere.

Sign Deangelo, go with 11 forwards/7 dmen, have Deangelo only come out for the PP. Give Nylander/Marner a few shifts on the 4th line.

Reeves is seeing like 6 minutes/game on the 4th, split those 6 between Willy and Mitch, they should be able to handle that just fine and we'd get some offensive production from that line for a change.

With how bad the Leafs have been playing lately, I wouldn’t be too upset if our deadline additions were pretty minor.

I honestly have very little faith in this core group of guys being able to withstand 4 playoff rounds and grind their way to victory.

Hopefully if/when there’s another “upset” and were eliminated from the playoffs in round 1 or get embarrassed in round 2, we finally see some major changes this off-season.

@thusk Take a look at your boy Kakko.. 3 goals and 8 points in 11 games with Seattle since the trade... like I said, decent, if not spectacular player, and certainly not a Puljujarvi.

Klingberg or DeAngelo would be welcome additions. Liljegren was traded out early and Hakanpaa never really came back. Leaving the quality depth options a little light. Securing one of them to push Timmins out of the lineup would be a good move. The team needs more offense, picking up one of these two is a low risk move that could have a very positive impact.
