Kastelic just extended with Boston and is on IR.

Just reading Tony D’Angelo just released from his KHL deal probably to return to the NHL.

Offensive RHD that can run a PP without having to give up an asset.
Pass

His play before he left had deteriorated quite spectacularly. Can't imagine this KHL run is much more than a mirage

And that's before the circus attached to him. Whether you agree with his opinions or not, no denying he doesn't have a history of off ice distractions, and locker room issues

the lock room issues is he holds teammates accountable and guys like Petterson are babies.

What offense has Reilly shown this year? Yes playoff Reilly is good but Miller upfront really solidifies the top 9 and has lots grit but skill.

You can find another puck mover typer at the deadline for way cheaper who can play 2nd pair
Think just putting OEL in Reilly spot is good enough

Last week on the FAN 590 hockey show. The ex nhl executive was talking about D’Angelo. Is it Bukas? Was with LA Kings.

Anyway he said he would take him in a heartbeat.
And he is all about team chemistry.

Even in a best case scenario of what Klingberg is today, he’s an upgrade on Timmins and that’s about it. He’s not a point shot or a one man breakout, he can walk the line and distribute pretty good but his scoring threat is off walking down to the circles and shooting much like Rielly.

Trade everyone off this team
This is the best it will be for 15 years. They have about 3 years to support them correctly and make it work. SADLY they top players want to consume every last % of the increased cap leave nothing for depth.

Greed is our downfall. Stupidity enabled the Greed in the first place. So basically thank you Shanahan and Dubas. Idiots

We've had the world's nicest locker room for years, hasn't won shit.

We'd miss his offense and ability with the puck from the back end. He's also been one of the few producing players in the playoffs. Not sure why anyone would want Miller, who has had locker room issues with multiple teammates.

I don't think Miller would work well in our locker room. I'm not sure if that's an indictment on Miller, or our guys, or both.

I wouldn’t be against giving a shot to DeAngelo. I’d rather have him over Timmins or the potential return of Klingberg who’s been sidelined for the past year and a half…

DeAngelo and Klingberg theoretically might provide more offense for us, but easily worse defense than Timmins. I say theoretically, because we really don't know what either is capable of anymore... at their peak, sure... now????

DeAngelo in an off season would outscore all of our current D, and thats a sad, but true statement

True... he put up 42 points in his last full season, with Carolina, and was a MINUS 27.

The goal in hockey is to score more than the opposition does, he doesn't help achieve that.

I'd imagine they're looking for point producing C's given that they have Couturier/Cates/Poehling as 3/4 of their C group and they are all defense first, low offense. Frost is their only offense first C and his point production isn't playoff top 6C caliber. I would think they're looking for a 1C and even a 2C to replace Cates and Frost. Couturier isn't going anywhere and Poehling is a perfect 4C - no need to replace him.

I guess it really depends on what they think of their team, and where they are headed. Are they that C away from competing? Are they retooling, rebuilding? I like your Cates idea, but he's only 25 years old, so in anything but a rebuild, they likely don't move him either.

The ship has sailed on Kastelic. Boston just signed him to a deal that looks like a steal for what he provides at 4C. Any acquisition would have to be an overpay and the Leafs would be foolish to overpay for a 4C.

I do like when people bring him up on this board - I received a ton of pushback here when I proposed Timmins for Kastelic in the summer of 2023.

As far as Krebs goes - I don't see it. Low offense, middling defense. He's never scored 20 goals in a season, going back to junior. He is physical though which I do like.

For sure Kastelic is a long-shot, and I said so in my first posting on him a few days ago. But a phone call is cheap, and if they throw in the towel, they might just be thinking of an all out rebuild. Long shot at best.

Krebs... I think the hope there, is that a change of scenery brings out more in the guy. Buffalo has been terrible at developing players... he plays most often with Lafferty and Malenstyn. Lafferty is a black hole offensively, and has 4 points on the season. I think he'll go somewhere else, and be a 0.5 PPG guy, mostly a setup guy, and some physicality, being decent in the dot. Remember, he's just 23 years old. He's also being started 64% in the dzone, so heavy dzone usage, on a terrible defensive team... I don't think the numbers look terrible in those circumstances. A setup guy is ok as a C, as we've got a number of shooters... McMann, Robertson...

What does that say about our highest paid dman?

We are completely desperate for offense from the back end so that's probably why I'm guessing. Not sure how much Klingberg can provide at this point but who knows, maybe he's more effective now with his hips fixed.
