Would Boston trade Kastelic? I don't know, as I suggested I'd "Inquire"..... that being said, it really depends on their direction, and what they think of their team. If they decide to do a rebuild, there shouldn't be a single piece on that roster that is untouchable.

I do find it ironic, that your most recent trade suggestion has Boston trading us a 26 year old, but somehow the 25 year old I suggested is completely off the table, and they wouldn't deal with us. I get one has an extended contract, and the other is a UFA... but the bottom line, they aren't trading either unless they are rebuilding, and if they are... move everything.
Frederic has been in the rumor mill for a few months at this point.

Noah Cates is back to playing C and he’s been hot lately. His defensive metrics are still elite and he’s back to a half pt/gp. He’s immediately my first choice for a 3C.

I wonder if Cates can be a Boone Jenner lite type of player.
I watched the last two periods of the game the other night against Florida and he was very good.
The game winner was a beauty and he was strong in the faceoff circle.
It feels like this is the kind of player that if you make the right call on (acquiring before everyone else figures out how good they are), you might end up with a pretty effective player.

We badly need to find a bottom 6 player that can really impact the game at both ends.

Do people really think this group is worth wasting futures to get them over the hump? If I’m Tre, I tell them what’s here is all there is, suck it up and prove your winners……..
I have said that for years and years and years

It'd be interesting to see if Klingberg has anything left. His last game before he was banished he looked pretty decent, then a plane ride ended that. Our PP sucks and neither Rielly or OEL have stepped up enough to QB it, and the five forward set-up has also failed. He's a righty, tall, and has a bit of nastiness to his game.

With how Benoit has struggled analytically and Timmins' fall off, I'm not entirely against this idea if he's league minimum. Leafs are already in tough to make trades without destroying our prospect pool and futures with how many teams are still "in it" and with how many other contenders are also looking to buy and have more assets than we do.

A third pair of OEL-Klingberg could be interesting, leaving McCabe-Tanev intact. Rielly would still need a partner, but that should be easy enough to take care of, Schenn shouldn't cost too much, and it might not even come to that since Hakanpaa is back skating again, for whatever that's worth.

"If they need to shed cap" Which I doubt they do.

You trade Reaves, move Holmberg, Rifai, Mermis and Hildeby off the current roster, and you end up with $5.126 in cap space.

I did run a scenario previously where I obtain Trochek and Kastelic, moving Kampf off the roster. If you have to find a mil, and Boston was willing to trade Kastelic, it would be a good move to replace Kampf with him... I just doubt Boston is moving Kastelic.

Fair point about playing around with contracts for space - though I don't think Tre has any intention of moving Reaves either via trade or to the minors - he's his guy

JT Miller for Morgan Reilly. Why not. You have your 3rd lin C this year and next year your 2nd line C. I don't think Reilly would be missed with this D

Full NMC. Does Tessa have a reason to go west?

Mcabe Tanev
Oel. ____
Benoit. Klingberg?

Not sure. How that works.

Here's Elliotte about the Flyers today at 27:22: The FAN Hockey Show
"They are not afraid to do things." Having Qs about goaltending. and looking for centres. Hopeful but want to accelerate. Looking around. Laughton has some interest. Are they really willing to move Frost or Farabee?

Do we think they'd move a 25 year old, who has been playing well at C? Last 15 games: 6 goals, 6 assists. He's set to be a RFA, I wonder what that contract would be?

He'd be a good acquisition, if we could do it. They want C's.... does that mean Minten goes the other way? Is that an attractive deal for us?
I'd imagine they're looking for point producing C's given that they have Couturier/Cates/Poehling as 3/4 of their C group and they are all defense first, low offense. Frost is their only offense first C and his point production isn't playoff top 6C caliber. I would think they're looking for a 1C and even a 2C to replace Cates and Frost. Couturier isn't going anywhere and Poehling is a perfect 4C - no need to replace him.
I'd inquire about Kastelic from Boston, also pretty young, low cap hit, physical 4C, could replace Kampf much cheaper.

Similar to Cates, I'd look at Krebs, good on the $, should be better... but Buffalo.
The ship has sailed on Kastelic. Boston just signed him to a deal that looks like a steal for what he provides at 4C. Any acquisition would have to be an overpay and the Leafs would be foolish to overpay for a 4C.

I do like when people bring him up on this board - I received a ton of pushback here when I proposed Timmins for Kastelic in the summer of 2023.

As far as Krebs goes - I don't see it. Low offense, middling defense. He's never scored 20 goals in a season, going back to junior. He is physical though which I do like.

Unfortunately the best time to acquire him was 2 months ago when he was either a healthy scratch or playing 4LW. He probably has real value now unfortunately.

We'd miss his offense and ability with the puck from the back end. He's also been one of the few producing players in the playoffs. Not sure why anyone would want Miller, who has had locker room issues with multiple teammates.

Kastelic just extended with Boston and is on IR.

Just reading Tony D’Angelo just released from his KHL deal probably to return to the NHL.

Offensive RHD that can run a PP without having to give up an asset.

the lock room issues is he holds teammates accountable and guys like Petterson are babies.

What offense has Reilly shown this year? Yes playoff Reilly is good but Miller upfront really solidifies the top 9 and has lots grit but skill.

You can find another puck mover typer at the deadline for way cheaper who can play 2nd pair
