Kampf for BastianI’d be happy with filling a need at 3C with upside and maybe RD, but what i’d be very happy with is finding a way off Kampfs money for a guy that helps.
To Pitt for Noel Acciari - go with an energy 4th line of Lorentz/Dewar/Acciari.
So we move a C man, who is good on faceoffs, and good on the PK, for a winger, who doesn't really PK much... ??Kampf for Bastian
1. You save money long-termSo we move a C man, who is good on faceoffs, and good on the PK, for a winger, who doesn't really PK much... ??
Then we don't have a decent 4C, suck at C depth, and have yet another winger?
Why? To save a couple of bucks... this makes no sense.
1. You save money long-term
2. They have Holmberg, Dewar and Lorentz who can all play 4C (even Minten)
3. It has been widely publicized that they are in the market for another C which further boosts their C depth
4. Kampf is their 2nd worst PK forward by xGA.
1. Bastian is arguably a better player than Kampf right now and that 1M can be spent elsewhere. Also - making a lateral move with long-term cap benefits shouldn't be a non-starter for a team that has won 1 series in the last 8 years.1. We are concerned with winning this year.
2. None of which play C as well as Kampf right now, so you make the team worse.
3. Yes, we are after another C, because we need another C. Your move means we need TWO.
4. and yet he plays the second most minutes at PK, and has one of the best ACTUAL goals against per sixty. When I looked up xGA for 4 v 5... it most certainly did not show Kampf as being one of the worst PK's by xGA either... NHL Player Statistics -Advanced Stats 2024-2025

2. I am not sure why you're convinced that Lorentz is a worse 4C than Kampf. Lorentz has been a much better player this year and he has played a ton at C in the past as you and I discussed when he signed his PTO. I'm also not convinced Dewar would be worse than Kampf at 4C.
3. They need another top 9C. They have plenty of 4C's as we've discussed.
4. Leafs xGA/60 on the PK
1. Bastian is basically Kampf on the wing but he's actually physical. Like Kampf, he doesn't score. Bastian does have a better xGF% at 5v5.1. Kampf has heavier use in the Dzone, and still better GF/60 stats... Bastian would be another forward who can't put up points, with 0.9 GF/60.... Sorry, he's just cheaper, that's all.
2. Kampf 54% in the dot, Lorentz 40%, Dewar 42%... I really like Lorentz, our best 4th liner.. but he's a winger., was with Florida too.
3. We have wingers, who can spot in at C.. and not that well....
4. I'm not sure what to say... other sites disagree... actual goals, he's one of the best... I'll go with actual goals, and Money Puck...
We lack depth of real C's... and getting rid of a real C is dumb, unless you've got a C replacement.
If Lorentz, Dewar or anyone else were better at C, than Kampf, they'd be playing C for us... they aren't. They are downgrades and we are a compete NOW team. Bastian downgrades our offense, on a team that needs depth offense. Making our team worse, is certainly a strategy, just not a good one. Happy to upgrade on anyone, or anywhere in the lineup, but this isn't it.
Kampf won't be traded... so there is that.1. Bastian is basically Kampf on the wing but he's actually physical. Like Kampf, he doesn't score. Bastian does have a better xGF% at 5v5.
2. Lorentz is 40% on 27 faceoffs. That is way too low of a sample to judge. The last time he played full time C, in SJ 2 years ago, he was 48% on the season which is 2% below average, the difference between 54% and 48% on the 4th line is 1 FO win every 2 games.
3. I am indifferent to your opinion.
4. That is your prerogative, I am a natural stat trick guy myself.
Kampf won't be traded... so there is that.
This summer is the earliest for sure.
If I could get him in a deal now to free up his money I'd seriously think about it
He's making about 1.5M over league min, that's a decent amount of space you can use if you want to make moves
I think Gourde PK's as well, I'm pretty sure Pageau does toIt would take a centre that could pk coming back IMO
Ex if ROR were to be coming here for Kampf+ 1-2 assets, sure because ROR can do the PK duties for us.

Pageau might be cheap....if he were retained, I would have a bit of interest.
Gourde I think is going to go for a silly price.
It really would take two C's coming back, to move Kampf this season. Even if we obtain a C who can PK well for the 3C spot, it still leaves us with a weakness at C in the 4 spot... and if we get an injury, suddenly we are back to Domi or Holmberg as the 3C... Of all of the positions we might need, I'd rather be strong at C.
You could... but neither are nearly as good at the PK as Kampf is... and Bjugstad doesn't really save you much on the cap over Kampf, and moving Kampf, adding Bjugstad will cost you assets. The difference between Kampf and Bjugstand is $300k. Bjugstad does bring better offense, but poorer D than Kampf. Neither guy is used as heavily defensively as Kampf is either. I think Pageau would be a good move... but I think if you replace Kampf, it has to be someone as good as Kampf on the PK, and better defensively than Bjugstad... you need one really solid defensive C.My preference would be Pageau, he can eat some tough minutes which means better opportunities offensively for the Matthew's and Tavares lines
You could bring in a 3C like Pageau and somebody cheap like Bjugstad for cover

These points are fair, but I think we've just about run the course with the Kampf experiment at 3C.
Yes he's decent defensively,.but I don't think it's to the point we can think of him as irreplaceable. Let's mix things up and go with more offensive minded guys
Worth noting his icetime.is also at the lowest since he was a rookie. Current coaches aren't as high on him as Keefe's were
