Agreed. His career numbers have basically been the same since Day 1.

I thought the narrative that developed over the summer was overblown, and it's downright absurd now. The fact that some are still parroting it shows me how much they're (not) paying attention.

Yup. JT was and still is a quality 2C. I’d love to see us add another quality C and go 3 balanced lines, but bumping JT down is not a need and moving him to LW makes no sense at this moment in time either

I kind of wonder if Fraser Minten hasn't been brought up a stronger organization already and benefits from not being fed to the wolves too early in his career.

McTavish is one of those classic pandemic era prospects who missed a ton of junior time, had a lot of instability coming up and is kind of flying at a low developmental level, staying afloat but not really thriving.
He’s always hurt, that alone is a big red flag imo…….

man the Rangers are in it this season. Probably will get traded once the roster freeze is lifted

When I saw that it did make me look twice.

They don't want him injured, so where is he going after the freeze?
Starting July 1, 2024: Player submits a 15 team no trade list.
My guess all the Canadian teams are on his NTC, so that leaves 20 teams.

My 3 guesses: Boston, Philadelphia or Nashville.

There is some talk of McTavish being available.

I'd be inclined to offer a lot.
Oh, come on you tease ... I know it is Christmas ... that would be a huge acquisition and yeah Cowan+Minten+ +. (He's on a down year, but it is one of the worst organizations in hockey.)

That would set up the Leafs to not re-sign Tavares for any sort of overpay.

It's a little suspect that he's available at his age and pedigree. A lot of injuries doesn't help either.

I'd have a decent amount of interest, but not sure I'd go as far as to offer a lot. I will say that I do think he'd be a good cheap get to add a little more offense. I don't know if we have the assets for it either.

With Matthews out, maybe they aim higher. You can move Tavares to #2LW as needed.
Aim higher means aim higher than a #3C given Matthews being injured twice already. Not aim higher than Tavares who is putting up close to his best Leafs numbers. We also need him to play this way in the playoffs.

Kreider-JT-Marner would be one hell of a line. He also scores in the playoffs and is a very reasonable cap hit (6.5). NYR would surely want back some win-now pieces though, they're not about to blow it all up.

Again, my guess he has all of Canada on his NTC.

I'd put money on the fact he'd waive for the Leafs

I'm not American but I'd block a lot of places before I'd block a trade to Toronto

Big market team, large safe city, good team, playing beside two all stars, organization that pours money into its players and there health

That's pretty bloody attractive

Really depends on his attitude ...

I'm sure the 8 other NTC destinations cover most of the "questionable" American markets.

Choice of 16 home country cities?

It isn't a choice of 16 cities, a bunch of teams won't trade for him even if there not on his NTC list

Toronto is a first class organization that plows money into its team and players, he's played for the Rangers so even the press coverage shouldn't be an issue

I just don't see a reason he wouldn't be willing to waive for Toronto unless his family are against it

I obviously wouldn’t mind Kreider but I would rather use our assets for a position of need. If these rumours of McTavish being available, he’s the guy for me.

Would absolutely love a package with McTavish and Vatrano coming to Toronto.

I don't think they would take either of those two unless we actually gave up something of value.

Trading a good player on a bad contract for a meh player and a bad player on bad contracts probably won't be much more enticing to them than just keeping Lindholm. You'd have to give them contracts that are coming off the books sooner rather than later imo.
Yeah, from BOS’s pov maybe, but such is the salary cap. I can’t really see a viable way without those two from TO’s pov.
That’s still clear of Lindholms full freight for his age 34-36 seasons. That’s a lot of risk to assume.
I get needing to add for the difference in quality, but I’m not sure how far I’d go given the large financial hit assumed. I’m not keen on overhelping a nemesis either.
The only temptation for me is Willy having a defensive gem with him who can keep up enough to chip in for a long time.

6,5M for a powerfoward on decline with an other 2 year remaining after this one , no thanks... Its type of player who's declining pretty fast, he will become one of worst NHL contract on his last 2
