We aremt losing, so there is no need to panic or overpay. We need a 3C but at the right cost. Why have the world's best scouting team but no picks ? Minten looks good and is cheap.
I like Minten and think he’s got a bright future ahead of him but I don’t think he’s ready to be a third line centre on a Stanley Cup contender just yet.

We need a top RHD and a c in our pipeline. Lots of wingers and tweeners.

If Cowan can be a 2 c. I think that’s ok.

Jiricek would be great. But I have no idea how we could make that happen.

Does cbj need a goalie?

Minten/niemela/goalie/1st? Type packages. I really don’t see it getting done for that.

O don’t see us trading Cowan or knies. Of Cowan is a winger I might?

With.

Knies/grebs already there plus Mitch/willy long term. I think it makes sense kind of.

Kreider would be a nice upgrade in the top 6, especially if Robertson is moved

But it’s more of a luxury with the Leafs having some youngsters playing well

Trochek would be the best target but I doubt he’s available.

Not sure how I feel about Trouba .. he’s got a hefty cap hit.
Can you imagine Parros if the Leafs had Trouba?

Fair however 20 year old RHD with his potential don’t come on the market very often and when they do, it’s something every team should look into IMO.

Sillinger would be a fantastic addition/target as well and really fit our needs.

When healthy, a top 9 looking like this is probably one of the best in the league.

Knies - Matthews - Domi
McMann - Tavares - Marner
Pacioretty - Sillinger - Nylander

I'm all for Sillinger but I doubt a 20 year old Jiricek who's skating needs some work and doesn't win board battles (that was from Columbus fans in a tread I was reading) who doesn't want to be in the AHL is going to appeal to Berube
I still think he's a guy you heavily investigate and pursue to see how feasible it is. Regardless of the team's situation, if you can sensibly add a former 6th OA pick two years from his draft year it could be a worthwhile gamble. Especially since the blue line is largely 30+

Personally I don't think the Leafs would part with Columbus would want .. but it's feasible.

The other aspect is the fit - not just on the roster itself but the optics. You have a Leafs teams playing really well through injuries, gelling nicely. How can you fit Jiricek in? There blue line has depth:

Rielly-Tanev
OEL-McCabe
Benoit-Timmins
Hakanpaa-Myers

The only avenue I see is in sheltered bottom pairing minutes (he needs regular playing time but in lower leverage situations at the NHL level to start with) .. who do you take out and rotate? Maybe it's sensible to move Timmins in another deal and put Jiricek there?

It's tough to have a hard pass on, but it is tricky to make it work with the Leafs even if they could afford the price.

We're trying to win, we moved Liljegren and kept Timmins so I'm not sure I see a reason to move Timmins to play a guy with even more question marks than Liljegren had at the time at higher levels

I'm not even sure Jiricek is better than Rifai right now, he needs AHL time but seems to want to fight it

Cowan won't be a C.

Jiricek can't even make Columbus... and I appreciate he's young, but no.

Right now. Leading the division and a lot of regulars coming back soon enough with great goaltending and nice depth on defence... I wouldn't be in any rush for a trade unless a team comes along desperate for some reason and you win the trade by a land slide.

Otherwise wait until closer to the deadline to see where this team is at.

A lot of seasons Leafs have traded away some higher picks etc and Leafs go no where.

Sometimes the best trades are the ones you don't make.

See what some of these young guys can do too.

No idea how you’d make it work but Kreider is how you make sure your PP doesn’t go 1 for 20 again in the playoffs. Also a solution to getting goalied.

I think Knies is actually that solution. They don’t even need a skilled scorer, just someone to dominate the crease and create traffic like Tomas Holmstrom or old Tim Kerr.

Kreider is the best netfront man in the league by a good margin imo, or at least the best one that isn’t more valuable elsewhere on the ice. Would be a perfect mentor for Knies as well like Pronger was for JVR. Running goalies accidentally on purpose doesn’t hurt either.

Either way I can’t see how it would be possible cap and asset wise or if the Rangers would even actually consider moving him.

Jiricek would be sweet but I think other team's would throw together sweeter packages. I'd do Robertson, the 2027 2nd and Dewar.

Kreider would also be sweet but he wouldn't be cheap and there's no real way to make the money work since I doubt the Rags would take the 2026 1st, Jarnkrok, Niemela, Robertson and Benoit. They'd want that 1st, McMann (very similar player), Minten/Cowan and Timmins which I think makes us worse.

I wouldn't be opposed to trying to get Kakko for a song, though. He's obviously not performed to his standing but he's good on the boards, responsible and can evidently play some reps at C, you're gonna tell me there hasn't been mismanagement there?

Simcoe County
Sens might shake things up and move Josh Norris

Injury concerns and has a bigger contract but there is some reward with that risk if he stays healthy.

If there is one major area that needs an upgrade before the playoffs it’s a C. We badly need some C depth. We got wingers coming out of our ying Yang. Overdrive boys were throwing pie in the sky ideas about Crosby getting traded here, and although that is never happening we do need C help.

The only thing I want is a legit 3C.

No need for Jiricek. We also don’t have the assets to pull off both deals.

If I have to pick one, we need the Centre more.

This is pretty far fetched. The only scenario where this happens, is if Crosby turns to Dubas and says, I want to be traded, and only to Toronto.

I doubt he would leave there but if he did it would probably only be next year after they bottom out this season.

I love how after what feels like forever, we FINALLY have good goaltending depth after 1/4 of the season so now some people want to immediately trade out Hildeby because he's not the shiny new toy anymore lol

Both Hildeby and Artur are 23. They should realistically have two more years on the Marlies if we're developing them judiciously. Please do not repeat the mistake of Rask/Pogge by needlessly trading one away prematurely just because we have two studs in the AHL. That's actually a good thing! Stolarz is on a two year deal and Woll has obvious health issues. We need this depth.

Matt Murray is a different story obviously, take the best pick you can get from a desperate team at any time.

I agree with the first part and about not moving out one of our G prospects.

I don't agree on Murray though. I don't imagine he has much value, so why trade him. If we could get an overpay from someone then I would move him but I don't see that happening.

An organization should have five goalies at AHL and above and Murray is the perfect #5. He can mentor the kids and he can be a call up that sits on the bench in the NHL and if he gets his game back he can be a #3 come playoff time as a two time cup winner.

Probably gonna cost a 2nd and maybe a B prospect

He's 32, hes not at 37 so for me its not a big deal

He is indeed 32, 33 on December 15th.

From Friedman

8. Yanni Gourde is an interesting one. His production is down, his ice-time is down, but the Kraken organization loves him. Even as things haven’t gone great for him, it hasn’t diminished how they feel. Ultimately, both sides have to agree if this UFA-to-be marriage will continue, but, at this time, there’s no indication of a divorce.

Seattle fans are disappointed in the above... they'd like to move on from him.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of Gourde at this stage. Small guy, who is slowing down and becoming less productive. On pace for 29 points, and the team does much better with him off the ice, than on the ice.

Bjugstad might be a good 3C option, if we don't feel Minten is ready. He's a UFA, Utah is struggling, his contract is just $2.1 mil, so he's easy to fit in cap wise... shouldn't cost too much. Big C, physical, has put up points when put in a position to do so. Is at 0.46 PPG this year in 13 games, which is better than guys like Gourde, Laughton... Utah does much better when he's on the ice, than off... It might be a good cheaper option.
