Just take picks for Murray. I rather not take random players if they don't fit.
I can't imagine they will give you a piece that is currently useful to them. They are grabbing Murray to compete.

Ideal pre-deadline:

Granlund (50% retained by Blue Jackets) for Robertson + 26 1st + 25 4th (to BJs)

Holmberg + 25 3rd + B/C prospect for B Tanev 50%

Knies - Matthews - Domi

McMann - Tavares - Marner

Tanev - Granlund - Nylander

Lorentz - Kampf - Dewar/Reaves

Pacioretty bumps Tanev down if/when he comes back.
I really like the idea Granlund for 3C. I think he would be a perfect fit for Nylander and give us 3 elite lines. Essentially 3 first lines. I also think Robertson could benefit a lot from playing with a playmaking C like Granlund.

3LW will be interesting between Robertson, Pacioretty or bringing in another player. They probably will address it internally with Robertson or Patches instead of bringing in a 3-4 m winger like Tanev. Especially if they spend money on a center and/or defensemen, which should both take priority.

I think Grebenkin is a really good fit for 4RW. He has 30 pounds and 3 inches on Dewar, and he has higher energy and offensive upside then Reaves. He's kind of like the middle version of Dewar and Reaves and an ideal power forward for 4th line with Lorentz-Kampf-Grebenkin being a good 4th line energy line with size.

With Robertson and Granlund:

Knies--Matthews--Domi
McMann-Tavares-Marner
Robertson-Granlund-Nylander
Lorentz-Kampf-Grebenkin

With Pacioretty and Granlund:

Knies--Matthews--Domi
Patches-Tavares-Marner
McMann-Granlund-Nylander
Lorentz-Kampf-Grebenkin

Hayton’s ice time is dropping in Utah, wonder if he’s someone to keep an eye on for a potential move.

I'd do a conditional trade... Chicago's 3rd round 2025 pick, if he plays more than 10 games, or our 2026 6th round back.
I will start the bidding at Chicago's 3rd Rd Pick and our 2026 6 Rd Pick together.
Beggars cannot be choosers.

Edit: While we are it, also swap Kampf for Drury.

Granlund is on the Sharks, and I want nothing to do with acquiring players from that franchise. It never works out for us, always leads to disappointment.

The cost for us to obtain Granlund is likely going to be out of our price range, given we'd need retention, and Sharks can't do it... so we'd need a third party to do it. In addition, it's improbable we'd be able to extend him, so he'd be a rental, something we should probably stop doing.

He's a good player, but he likely doesn't fit. We really just need a good 3C, not a 2C, to be put in a 3C spot... that goes for Kadri as well.

Here is a list of some C's that have been talked about so far... I think there are others too.

Brock Nelson, Acciari, Laughton, Ryan Strome, Granlund, Kunin, Gourde, Sissons, Dickinson, Pageualt, Dvorak, Evans.... At least, that's who I see might be available. I've mentioned McBain, but I doubt he's available.

It's fairly challenging finding someone who is affordable, puts up some points, and isn't defensively weak....

Granlund is a great player but personally i don't see the fit with the leafs. I don't think its the type of player leafs need..

Leafs don't create a lot off the rush and its more about battling, winning 1v1 battle, and drive the net. I don't think Granlund even with his skill set is the right guy. His price will be high and don't think he will give what leafs really need.

Personally i still think Gourde still the best option. This guy is a bulldog, he don't as have as much skill than Granlund but fighting for every inche and will help to bring back the puck on leafs side much more than Granlund. More you get back puck on your sticks with player like nylander, matthews, marner and more the chance to create someyhing offensively is high.

I am not sure which players have a NMC, but I would target those players since they have some say where they want to go.
You don't want to get into open bidding wars.

If Giroux is available, I think you see if you can make that happen.
Yes, there needs to be retention but Giroux is going to pick his destination.
