Also, very low chance this happens and I know it's almost sacrilegious to say around these parts, but if Rantanen is willing to re-sign here I drive Knies to the airport in a deal for him

McMann - Matthews - Marner
Rantanen - XXX - Nylander

Is the top 6 you build around longterm. Let Tavares walk and find a 2c that is defensively responsible to play between Rantanen and Nylander

I learned years ago not to get to excited about the trade deadline. It normally ends with the same level of excitement as draft night. Sit around hoping a guy falls only to hear the Leafs dropped down to get two meh players instead of one good one.

OK .. Show of hands here who is sitting on pins and needles here hoping for a sign and trade deal for Mikko Rantanen to the Leafs?

There’s like, no chance imo… not even garnering thought in my mind

I just realized Nelson has a 16 team NTC and he's American

Who wants to bet we're on there
For a few months, I suspect he’d waive for a legit contender

Not sure he likes him all that much. His minutes are lower than they've been under Keefe and he's been pretty bad. Minten could replace him and you wouldn't notice a thing.

They really need dump him as soon as possible. If they can make it happen before tomorrow the better.
Minutes aside, Kampf has been a regular mainstay in the lineup, while others have rotated in and out (Holmberg, Robertson, Dewar, Reaves, Paccioretty)

Kampf should have easily been in that same group of players but he hasnt been. Him and Lorentz have been the 2 mainstays in the 4th line all season, which means Berube likes them.

I'd be ecstatic to move out Kampf and hit $$ for Kunin

Not sure I want to put all our eggs in one basket.
That ship my friend for the Leafs has already sailed in that they pay 4 players > 1/2 their entire salary cap. :wg:

All year, before the season even began I was willing to walk away from Marner in hopes of signing pending UFA Mikko Rantanen instead for similar cap $$$.

If Carolina is willing to do a re-sign and then trade (at Leafs financial terms) first then all the risk of the move above is gone. Leafs have a big powerforward under contract long term,

Besides you know what they say about eggs, not going to make a nice Stanley Cup :stanley: winning egg omelette, without cracking a few eggs.
