Yes.

Bruins took him and let him develop, because the Bruins are awful at recognizing and developing talent.

Hopefully we sent him packing so Malgin could stay in the lineup……. Oh wait, we did….. ;)

Anyways bigger fish to fry and way easier things to ping off Dubas than Brazeau.

You’re talking about a guy with 27 career points….

Has anyone been able to explain that Pitt/Nashville deal yesterday, for the life of me I don’t get it for either side?

Actually kind of a shrewd move by Dubas, who as we all know does like to shuffle deck chairs often. Novak and Bunting are almost offensive washes, and Schenn is an asset he can either flip or keep given he's traded Pettersson and may trade more D.

As much hate as he's getting for what he's doing with the Pens. He's acquired a lot of picks in the top 3 rounds. Will probably acquire more picks/prospects when he can get rid of Rakell/Crosby/EK etc

I don't like most of his moves really. But yes he's gotta move on from Rakell and EK and restock what is a weak prospect pool. I don't think Crosby gets traded. Not sure about Malkin.

Yeah I don’t like the C problem, we already don’t have a 3C and our 1C has chronic injuries. I’m on board with Knies-Matthews-Rantanen to change our look up front and either Tavares or Bennet as 2C with Nylander + some spare cash to fix the 3rd line but there’s no world where I keep Rantanen and Marner.
I dont see how a core of

Matthews
Rantanen
Nylander
Bennett/Tavares

Will be better than our current core 4 unless you think Marner is only reason for our struggles and/or if we get rid of him the other core guys will produce

Forwards:

Matthews - 13.25M
Rantanen - 12.5M
Marner - 12.5M
Nylander - 11.5M
XXX - ?
XXX - ?
Domi - 3.75M
Robertson - 1.5M
Cowan - 925K
Minten - 925K
McMann - 1.3M
Dewar - 1.1M

Defense
Rielly - 7.5M
McCabe - 4.6M
Tanev - 4.5M
OEL - 3.5M

Goalies
Stolarz - 2.5M
Woll 3.67M

Gives us ~86M cap allocated leaving 9.5M for 2 forwards (1C at min) and 2D

Cap wise it would be very tough unless we moved Rielly out for a 5M top 4D and Woll for a picks and signing a 1.5M backup giving us 14M to add those 4 pieces

All in all, I can conceed this level of trades and cap management is more than Trelivomg_Shammy would ever do. Too many risks and unknowms so we likely go for safer options at the TDL

He is pretty much another Bobby McMann.

Similar production this year at 27 in 54 vs 20 in 57

McManm plays 14:40 a game vs Brazeau at 12:58

Both are pretty old at 27 and 28 years, both took long time to make NHL.

McMann has 52 in 120 for his NHL career or 36 per 82 vs 27 in 76 or 29 per 82 career line

You can realistically only carry 1 of McMann and Brazeau as both are limited guys with a nice asset/attribute but not really top 6 capable guys.

If we kept Brazeau and lost McManm we'd be a bit worse off likely but overall both overcame expectations and became NHLers in mid 20s after no prospect hype/pedigree and little early production early on

If ROR agrees to go to NJ to play for Keefe again we’ll know it was the market and not the coach that he wanted to avoid here. Lights too bright for Mr. Factor it seems.

Wait hang on, ROR doesn’t have any clauses on his contract? That’s what Puckpedia and Capwages are saying. Guess it won’t matter then. Thought for sure he had at least a NTC.

Minten for Laughton makes me want to vomit.
I think on paper the trade is fair. Laughton is worth a 1st or comparable asset. But, Laughton isn't even a real 2nd line player. He is a well rounded middle-6 winger or 3rd line center. Minten could be ready for the NHL as soon as next season. With a relatively likely chance of matching Laughton's abilities soon after. It doesn't look to be a very wise asset shuffle.

If we could have Knies for Rantanen and Cowan for tuch both leafs assets would be out the door

Tuch is Knies ceiling in the moment. Hes a PWF style 65-75 pt guy. If it only cost Cowan then bye to Cowan

Id still want to do Rantanen for Knies as your adding a top 10 playoffs ppg ever to the team.
I'd want it all if possible. And I think the post bolded below makes a good point; Don't compete for Rantanen with premium assets during the season, compete in the offseason with negotiations.

But that's got to be predicated on say, Reilly moving on, and I hate to say it...But I can't shake how good our club looked when Matthews was down for that long stretch. It was like everyone looked at each other and knew they had to pick up the difference. But that's kind of the secret sauce isn't it? EVERYONE buying in and feeling like they can contribute. I get a sense Matthews' premier talent is deferred to in some unrealized way among our group that is arresting the parts of their game that flourish when he's absent. I'm probably in error there, but...I just can't shake how solid a club we looked. Like Burns era solid.
Anyone have any idea what the ask will be on a Knies extension? 6.75 for 6+ years?

I'm all in on going for Rant in the offseason. Having a top 6 that consists of Knies, Matthews and Rantanen is a huge plus. Because they are all huge and makes us a heavier team to play against.

I only mentioned Knies last night because I assume Carolina would ask for him if Rant came with an extension. Would rather keep Knies and go after Rant in the offseason if that's the ask. I think if you do sign him however, you have to do a full switch of either Nylander or Rant to C.

He's got no trade protection so the Preds owe him nothing.

ROR might have had beef with the coaches and the rabid market but there's a sense of karma here. But I'm sure he's fine with the paycheck and quiet lifestyle that he wanted. I hope there's part of him that regrets it.

Trade Knies for an extended Rantanen, let Marner and Tavares walk, offer sheet Carolina for Knies, 7 yrs x 7 million lol

The same people wanting to trade Minten for Laughton are the same folks who would be pissed if we traded Knies for Rantanen makes no sense
Knies is helping us right now and is a bonafide NHLer, Minten is still a hope and a prayer. He seems likely and safe but nothing you can't acquire easily. Knies type players are hard to acquire and someone we've been looking for and not able to acquire.

5g
I wouldn't. I'd rather have our younger up and coming player that isn't asking for 12M+ I don't really care what he did in the past.
Till knies asks for 7-8 million dollars for not winning anything
If rantanen signs its a no brainer

Maybe, but we're already past that point of return.

The other option is what, draft players in 2026 and 2027 to help us win a cup when Matthews is 35?

I'm not seeing much of a winning alternative here
Or trade for players who got terms or is able and willing to resign while still in their prime.
I don’t see how Vegas can always manage to trade for good players who are 26-28 yrs old and able to resign them. While we always trade for players who either won’t or can’t due to cap to remain on the team after playoffs.

Giving up assets for McCabe and Lafferty are fine bc they both got terms, in their prime and Leafs have the cap room to extend them.

Lastly, Leafs winning a Cup and having AM win a cup with Leafs can be two completely different things.
