Sorry but anyone who wouldn’t take an extended Rantanen over Knies…. Yikes. Knies is a good young player but Rantanen destroyed teams just a few years ago on his way to winning a Cup

I wouldn't. I'd rather have our younger up and coming player that isn't asking for 12M+ I don't really care what he did in the past.

No idea how the salary works, but I could see Boston sending one or more of those guys to Edmonton, especially Carlo.

Knies will never become Rantanen but his ceiling as a scoring powerforward is quite effective and also represents great value still being on his ELC and having RFA status.

How does what you say make any sense?

Either they let Marner walk to sign Rantanen and gain no additional cap space, let both walk and lose Knies for 1 month of Rantanen but have cap space to sign FA or find a way to sign both Marner and Rantanen gaining no cap space

They can give us permission to talk I think. I am ok with making some sort of deal with them if it's signed. Outside that the cost will be immense

That should hopefully go with saying. You're not trading Knies for 2 months of Rantanen. You would even like to try to sneak some other pieces out of Carolina as well.

I don't think it's about Knies being better than Rantanen, it's trading Knies and then likely losing Marner as well in the offseason. Not sure how you afford both. That makes it a tougher sell.

Unless Brad already knows Mitch isn't signing here anymore, in which the situation gets spicy.

I think its Tavares cap space we lose by signing Rant....not Marners.

The only way I trade knies is if rantanen comes with an extension sub 12.5 and you know you can re sign marner and a 2c.

OR if there's an extension Nd knies wants 8

Seth Jones was acquired at 7M for the same term as Rielly. He is paid less (for the acquiring team).

Yeah and we could retain as well. Better to waste 1-2 m than 7.

Because you're losing Marner and Knies for let's say 20 million and gaining Rantanen plus 7 million in cap space to fill the void left by Knies

The bruins are our direct divisional rivals, they would force treliving to overpay for their players. They would overcharge us and raise their price just to make it difficult for us to get them.
