I like the idea of Rantanen in theory. Big bodied winger that has cup winning experience and production. But at the same time the fit is awkward.

Still you should look at the potential anyway

Roy in Vegas for me still. It may be harder to get him, given they're competitive, but get some term and relative youth if you're dealing with the higher up prospects.

Ick. How reliable is he"? IIRC he was a hard core Dubaphile so I always took his takes with an extra grain of salt. However what if that is all that is actually out there?

What if Lou isn't sure if he is interested in moving Pageau and ROR won't come to TO and Cozens will require Knies + and Strome isn't a good enough 200' player to interest them. I still take Nelson ahead of any of that group but he wasn't on my short list for sure.

Or is Mirtle now a Leaf shill and he is putting out the smoke they give him. If you are trying to make a deal, does it help your position to flag who the actual top guys on your list are? And do you actually leak 1 to 5 in order? This seems like it could be more likely.

Mirtle is pretty connected but this "list" is just an agglomeration of players linked to the Leafs plus the need for a center. Not really a reach to put those 5 on a list and say the Leafs are likely getting one of them. Schenn and Laughton are only if the teams drop down their asking price.

Treliving will not acquire a Cozens or pull off a blockbuster by Friday. It will very likely be an average rental type of addition or two, similar to last season. There might be a curve ball out there but it's better to keep expectations low for that stuff. Even with the Flames when they were first in the league, he only acquired a depth defenseman for a conditional pick.

Mirtle is typically pretty accurate with what he puts out there.

Given how little Treliving actually does it’s impossible to know if Mirtle is plugged in with him or not.

I consume all audio media he puts out and I’m pretty confident the regular Leaf fan would be smarter if they never heard a thing he says.

I wanted to bring up Yegor Sharangovich as an option for 3C, he's been healthy scratched a few times in Calgary now and doesn't have a cheap contract.

I wonder if Calgary would suspend the trade embargo with Toronto?

Could something like Domi, Robertson, 2025 3rd or our FLA 2025 2nd get that done?

I don't stand behind Mirle at all. I don't have a lot of respect for him.

What I do know from my experience: where there is smoke, there is fire.

I would not be shocked if B. Schenn becomes a Maple Leaf. The mystery is how much it will cost.
