Listened to 590 this morning. Not sure who the guest was but some interesting tidbits:

-Rumour is that Brock Nelson wants to play for the Wild next year (hometown). Possibly Winnipeg due to proximity. He's purely a rental.

-Rantanen's wife is an actress. This may be influencing his decision on where he wants to play. Obviously, L.A., Anaheim, and New York makes sense. Maybe Toronto was mentioned because of the movie scene here? (speculating)

-He confirmed that O'Reilly didn't have an issue with Toronto, the city, it was the coaching staff.

Sam McKee? Not sure I'd put much weight into what he has to say. Or was it Mike Futa?

I'm just assuming our deadline deal is Risto + Laughton at this point. Maybe an additional move to move out some cap but yeah.

The thing is, we need a C in addition to Kampf. We need another RHD, in addition to Timmins. Moving these two opens up new holes.

My concern is that Matthews is injured, and there is little chance of him coming through. He has two goals in his last 15 games. It’s nice that he’s playing hard, and getting assists, but we really need his goal scoring to succeed. I don’t know if shutting him down for a stretch will help, or if another surgery offseason is coming.
can't disagree with you there. every playoffs hinges on the top 4 stepping up which they usually never do or they do it in spurts. but shit, if those guys could play to their potential in the playoffs they could be a force. wishful thinking on my part.

Gourde said last night was the first time he felt healthy all season and like himself again. He's a very nice piece when healthy, I wouldn't be surprised to see him as a leaf by Friday.

He's a gamer. Super gritty player with offensive upside and playoff/championship experience.

Im hoping we get him instead of Tampa re-acquiring him or even Florida. He's a pain in the ass to play against

It's going to be hard to compete with TBL for him since they have the cap space to absorb his contract without any sort of heavy retention.

I'm kind of 50/50 on Gourde but considering all the options, he's definitely among the better ones.

That's my "wow he did it" trade. It's a big one to pull off.

My expectations are much lower. A couple rentals with heavy retention is what I expect.
yeah, my expectations are low.
Real need is a good d-man, zero chance Treliving will pull that off.

I am paraphrasing, but I just heard Frank Seravalli say this on the Fan JD Bunkis podcast.

"A 1st, a 2nd, and a 4th could get it done for Gourde and Tanev."

Another quote: "Toronto's priority list 1.A Center 2. A Winger 3. A RH depth defensemen"

"The first team to present a 1st round pick gets Laughton."

Also said at the beginning of the show: "this is absolutely a Buyers' Market this year. There are a far greater amount of players available compared to the amount of teams looking to fill limited spots."

Also mentioned that FLA and Tampa are going after impact players linking Alex Tuch to Tampa. That Tampa might even be willing to overspend for him.

Moderators,

Once the podcast goes up I'll provide exact quotes and a link.

If we could find a way to swing both Tanev and Gourde that'd be really cool

Knies - Matthews - Marner
Jarnkrok - Tavares - Nylander
McMann - Gourde - Robertson
Tanev - Kampf - Lorentz

That 4th line is an ideal Berube 4th line

I agree, but where did Domi go?

I said a while ago, Seattle can solve our whole forwards lineup. Need to go elsewhere for the dman but Seattle is a team chock block full of top notch bottom 6 forwards on a true contender.

Literally any one of their forwards would help our bottom 6.

Sam McKee is getting on my nerves lol. He mocks leaf fans if they have a different opinion than him. Example fans not wanting to mortgage the future

Lol, i wouldnt pay a 5th for Gourde (the 5 foot NINE and injured, and 33 years old, pending UFA that i wouldnt sign as a UFA), and a 3rd for Tanev, so, yea, i'm sure you could get both for that insane price
I would lose my mind if we paid that much for those guys

As far as depth defenseman go, Jokijarju should be cheap to acquire.

If Toronto keeps making the playoffs, how much is their 1st and 2nd even worth? Do late 1st round picks, and late 2nd round picks always make the NHL? Likely Seattle will have to retain no? That's something that's going to make Toronto pay more for sure.
