Value of: Trade Value of Injured Goalie?

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

honest question:

Elite goalie coming off back to back injury seasons.

Contract still decent, signed next year for 5m.

Goalie market seems really light, what do you all think he can get in a trade?

I think it’s fair to say Demko’s trade value is at an all time low right now.

Teams giving up high quality assets to acquire Demko this summer would usually make that move with the intention of immediately signing him to a big extension. With Demko’s current injury history I’m skeptical a trade partner team is out there looking to sign him to the high $ long term deal Demko wants. Could easily see Demko “betting on himself” to play a season and go UFA if traded.

I think Vancouver could find a team willing to give up a 2nd + B or C level prospect for Demko if they want to trade him.

Who wants to pay a goalie $5M when you know he'll be injured for 40 games?

If he stays healthy for a full year in Vancouver, he'll be able to do well in free agency (or more likely, re-up in Vancouver for eight years). If they insist on moving him now, the return will be very low.

Unfortunately for Vancouver he has zero value at the moment. You could probably dump him for a mid round pick but nothing more

It's pretty damning that they signed Lanklnen to a 5 year deal with the first 2 years having a NMC.

That being said, if Demko successfully recovers and has a string of 20-30 games of elite play, he'll bring back a 1st+.

To many question marks at a position where you cant afford that kind of uncertainty. He's probably not tradeable right now. He's only managed 17 starts thus sesdon abd he was far from elite in most of those

Not too different from Darcy Kuemper’s situation in DC. Fell off hard and surpassed by a younger, cheaper goalie. Then shipped out in an archetypal “change of scenery” hockey trade.

Vancouver would be smart to try to identify another team’s problem child/square peg and buy low a la PLD.

Too bad EP already plays there because ironically that’s the type of guy they should be looking to target
