Flash's deal isn't bad at all. I'm just thinking of Clarkie, Rico, and maybe Loki all due for raises this year. We don't know how much Patty will get either. Removing Tallinder (Or Volchinator) would definitely almost cancel it out completely. Especially with Colin White's million dollar buyout hit coming off after this season.

Guy Boucher was and still is a fantastic HC btw... Doesn't help when you have a below average defence and a mediocre duo of net minders.

Although I do think Boucher is an excellent coach. But I think DeBoer is better.
Lindy Ruff is a bad coach. He's ruined so many promising players. I don't like to buy into narratives, but the Sabres went on a run last year right after he was injured in practice and confined to the pressbox.

Boucher's coaching style kind of seems like a step backwards for the Devils, in my opinion.

I don't know much about Boucher other than he was supposedly Jacques Lemaire's protege. My Bolts fan friends say they could see his firing coming, but they didn't really blame him. We talked about this as early as all the way back in mid February.
They upgraded their defense, but it's still a bunch of offensive guys (Carle contract is stupid) and an old Sami Salo. It doesn't matter who is in net with their team. They get pinned in so much any goalie will look bad with that much sustained pressure. That's why when the rumors of Marty possibly going there when it was announced he was going to UFA, that I couldn't make any sense of that.

It was Bleed's quote, and nothing contentious about my response lol. I was more or less surprised he would say it given all his harping on how bad the Tampa defense was. And you seemed to intimate at it too.

My point in highlighting the quote was basically what you said here - if he was a defensive coach then he sucks cause the team didn't do it well at all.

He did have crap to work with, but you're right. He didn't do a great job in trying to get them out of their end more often. Many of their games look like they're on a PK for much of the game. It don't matter if you got grandpa Rollie in net, or Lindback, hell put Lundqvist in there. They'd still be close to dead last in goals against.
Their defense is as bad as the Maclean Devils, or what the Caps have looked like for some of this season. I think it's fair to put some of that on him.
