Thrilled for Blackwood to get some long-term stability and get paid, but man that could be an ugly contract. Glad not to be the one giving it to him.

Depending on how it’s structured, I’d imagine a buyout costs 1.5-2M a year. 2% of the cap for an error. That likely only happens if injuries impact Mak. He’s young and incredibly fit and playing behind a great team. All the Avs need is near league average and to not be a huge dick. The upside for the Avs is significant. They were going to spend this on the best UFA goalie they could find. That’s Blackwood.

I’d probably have considered 4*$6M and look to move Mack in Y3 or 4, but that’s complicated, happy for him. Hope we can bring in a 1B for the next two years. Maybe an overpaid guy we get paid to take on, but not sure we want someone making $5M to be outplayed by Askarov at $2M.

Almost good for us. We unfortunately have 4/5/6/7/8giev manning the pipes. I am just ready to bury him in the minors because I feel like not even Speer can fix this dud of a goalie

You act like he's locked into a multi-year contract and dragging down a competitive team. He's a pending UFA and the Sharks could still use a high draft pick. Georgiev is terrible but it hardly matters given where the Sharks are at.

I think Blackwood is 29, so a 5 year deal at a fairly mid-tier starting goalie price should be expected to get 3 or 4 decent starter years out of it and then maybe in his 33 or 34 season you see him break down. It's not like they gave him 8 years or $7.5m per or anything stupid like that.

It's more than the Sharks could've or should've offered given that this is Askarov's team as soon as next season, but it's not a deal that I would be too upset about handing out under different circumstances.

While I understand this point on market value for goalies, the amount of goalies I would want to give more than 3 years to I can count on one hand and Blackwood isn't one of them.

They had so much Georgiev ptsd they gave Blackwood 5 years. I do hope it works out for them, but I wouldn't have been too happy had the sharks given that contract

Now, should the sharks give carriere a look in the nhl after burying Georgiev? Just to get more experience in the system?

If they get Schaefer than we have a killer 1-2 on D and a strong 1-2-3 forwards with Celebrini, eklund, smith and a strong 1G in Askarov. The next generation will be here and it will be time to go for it…

Carriere is on an AHL deal, so he can't play for the Sharks without signing an NHL contract, and he's the #5-6 in the system right now.

He seems to be performing well for Wichita, which is great and maybe he's a starter for the Barracuda next year with an NHL deal, but he's extremely unlikely to be getting playing time this season.
