:02 secs after Gabby goes we will all be barking for primary scoring aside from Nash...

"Teams just have to key in on Nash to shut us down... it's too easy" x 1,000,000

Not that I'm against it at this point. Something has to be done... I thought Sather would be more patient but apparently not.

i want to trade for Torres, perfect addition of toughness and little bit of offense in bottom 6.. then i want to recall palmieri for bottom 6..adds size, toughness and can provide little bit of offense..

Nash-Richards-Callahan
Hags-Step-Gabs
Torres-Miller-Palmieri
Powe-Boyle-Haley

if kreider is ready..

Nash-Richards-Callahan
Kreider-Step-Gabs
Hags-Miller-Palmieri
Torres-Boyle-Haley/Powe

Torres is exactly what this team needs. Nasty, physical player who can pop in 10-15g. I sure hope they target him. Sather can work his PHX connection.

Gonna end up restructuring the team. The way this goes, with what we have now, we need a new identity.

actually, we have an identity, we just need to recover that identity. a hardworking, defense first, gritty, in your face hockey team.

i'm convinced that Nash was simply Gaborik's replacement. I'm sure they hoped he would be a compliment, but with Gaborik's health, and streaky play, there's no doubt they've been looking beyond him for quite awhile now...

The first two years I think and then the third was a significant showing. The down year in 2011 for him sucked. Nash will end up replacing... Has to. It seems as such. We better not turn into the blue jackets pf last year.

what's hurting the team more than anything, or just as much as Gaborik's lack of production is the unexpected drop in Richards play. I find that extremely disconcerting. Hopefully he gets his act together fast.

Question: Someone quoted Zipay as saying that the Rangers could buy out Richards in 2014, and then resign him. If this is possible, and Richards is worth retaining as a 2C for less money that would be great!

brilliant. on all points.

one other thing... excuse or not, the turnover of 6 F had a significant impact when you factor in the shortened season. When people say "other teams are in the same boat" that's BS. Other teams didn't turnover 50% of their forward corps without a camp, preseason....

Granted, turning over that many players in a regular season is never good.

ding ding ding, this is the main issue!!!
you dont win championships when you turn over your roster.. they are built over time.. that was our biggest issue.. but the dudes we brought in pyatt, asham, halpern, powe are no where near what we gave up in FA.. we need to rewrite the bottom six, with toughness and veteran leadership..players that know their role and play consistent with it..

we shouldv'e kept Prust, Feds, Mitchell.. we dont need to blow up the team just re tool bottom six.. we have the two centers moving fw with Miller 3c and Boyle 4c.. just need wingers to complement them..
Id try and trade for Torres.. vet/toughness.. id call up palmieri give him an opportunity to earn a spot.. brings physical toughness and can score goals here and there..if doesnt fit, trade for another vet rental.. and if Kreider is ready, id call him back up..

The thing is, they are doing that anyways with Gaborik here....

That has been said by many people since they acquired Nash.

Richards has been terrible. No other way to say it. Not sure if it is the system, or his legs, or his age, or what.

so this Gaborik talk is getting real, I get he makes 7.5 but he only has one yr left so saying thats hard to move especially to a cap floor team is just not that big a deal I would think

they HAVE to get the right deal to move him though otherwise no dice

I think you are 100% right on that point. If Richie was the same player (overall) as he was last year than I don' think we would be panicing as much. His offensive production taken a small hit and the rest of his game has taken a massive nose dive.

As Aurophille wrote, Prust leaving was just as much Prust as Sather, actually imo, it was all Prust.
Thing is we needed to replace Prust... we didn't. We should have kept Feds and Mitchell for consistency alone. Pyatt is ok. ok isn't cutting it. The guy has been through a lot, but doesn't bring anything to the game. Same goes with Halpern. I'm so sick of Sather signing washed up tough guys. Asham being the latest.

Love to bring in Torres.

Yes, i remember reading others write (yourself?) write that Nash was Gaboriks replacement. I guess i didn't want to see it, but know it seems apparent the writing was on the wall.

What do you think about Richards being bought out and then resigned to a lower $$ contract?

The point about Zipay was he doesn't know his ass from his elbow. The MOU/CBA doesn't allow the Rangers to amnesty Richards and then re-sign him to play that coming season. He was shooting down any suggestion about the Rangers trading Gaborik when is on the market. Zipay was writing Gaborik has a NTC when he has a limited NTC. Brooks reported that 2 years ago. Zipay was writing about Zuccarello this weekend. He couldn't understand why the Rangers had not signed him yet after losing three in a row. He wanted Zuke in the line-up this week. There's an issue with the contract. There's a visa issue. I have a trade. Zipay to the Islanders beat for Arthur Staple.

Yeah a few of us mentioned it. It was actually brought up by Brooks I believe but RB I am sure would have the person who said it.

I didn't think that was possible? If you buy someone out, they can not re-sign.

On Gaborik:

Booth + Kassian + Jensen + 1st for Gaborik + Boyle

Abdelkader + Tatar + Ferraro/Jurco + 1st for Gaborik

Hornqvist + Ellis/Blum + Watson + 1st

Those types of packages.

This team needs a shake-up. They need to find an identity again. Hard-working? Dump and chase? Possession?

With Torts here, I would doubt it will be possession. Gaborik should be moved. Boyle should be too. This has to be used to make a point that this is totally unacceptable.

Get good young pieces back and move on. The Islanders are young and hard-working. The Rangers bottom-6 creates no chances or energy from their shifts. The top-6 has no one that is even willing to go to the net outside of Nash and Callahan.

To be honest, if this was a full season and we were in this same spot with 25-30 games remaining, there is no doubt in my mind that Tortorella would be canned. Hard work only gets you so far. We saw that last season. The Bruins are one of the hardest working teams in the league, yet they still have an abundance of skill in their top-six.

I'm with you there, Zipay isn't great. There are much better non-credentialed blogs out there than the crap that Zipay provides.

What would the reaction have been if the Rangers gave Johnny Malkin 2 years/$2.2M?

I would've flipped out. Simple as that. Loved/Love the Halpern signing.

I agree. Unfortunately, changing coaches now, in a shortened season pretty much means giving up as it takes time to learn the system.

Who's fault is it that Torts doesn't have the skill players he needs for his system though? Hagelin. Stepan. Nash. Callahan. They all seem to do well. Richards and Gaborik have sucked. The bottom-6 has been atrocious.

sry, didn't realize this was nonsense spouted by Zipay. This isn't the first time he's made a mess of things.

i like the first two. Nashville deal, not so much.

is that what Col gave him? I can understand not bringing him back @ that $

He has such great access. He has been covering the team for a while. Newsday is owned by Cablevision. The Canadian media knows more about the Rangers than people who cover the team on a daily basis.

dont think gaborik gets moved during this season, although i would like to see it, similar to Nash getting traded out of Columbus teams are going to be unwilling to trade huge packages including blue chip prospects on top of first round picks and roster players during the season.

The Rangers need more speed and skill. They need more physical players. They need so much. The coach is trying the pat on the back method now. They are such an easy team to play against. They need more snarl on the backend.

I don't think you're going to get that kind of package for him at this point. It's likely to be one valuable piece, plus a cap balancer and maybe a pick. Booth + 1st. Booth, Tanev/Gaunce and a 3rd. Booth and Jensen Something like that if Vancouver even wants to try and make the deal.

The Wings don't have much to give that could contribute right now. I doubt they want to give up Tatar or Nyqvist in a deal.

I don't think the Preds will give you their top-scoring winger in exchange for Gaborik. They're also a team with an internal budget, so they'll want to balance out the salary. Most of their high-priced guys have NMC's or NTC's. Kostitsyn doesn't, but would anyone really expect him to be a target after what he pulled against the Oilers? We might actually see Tortorella murder a player on the bench.

IMO they should keep Gabby for the rest of the season. They gotta add the tough guys through deadline deals, similar to what Boston did in 2011. They added some key bottom six guys and that ended up propelling them to the cup. We could do a similar thing if we add the right guys at the deadline. Will be interesting to see.

Gaborik was excellent for the majority of his tenure here. What changed? The system surely didn't change, so why is he all of a sudden in this situation? Torts has never liked Gaborik. He's put up with him as long as he was scoring goals because he was our only offensive weapon. Now he has Nash and he no longer has to put up with Gaborik and his flaws. He has a big, hard-hitting version of Gaborik to lean on. He's pushing Gabby out the door with both hands.

Torts wanted Richards. He got him. Torts has plenty of tools to work with. He just refuses to adapt.

I agree with this but what do we give up to get that? Most Ranger fans would be against the idea of trading some youth to make a run at the 6th - 8th seed. I doubt we will deal more picks since we already missing our first rounder.
