CBJ wont, and shouldn't move a young player that is actually good. Now players like Umberger, Wiz, Prospal, etc. is a whole different scenario

Won't and Shouldn't are two different things.

I agree with you that they shouldn't be moving young players who are good. As far as the "won't" part... this IS Scott Howsen we're talking about, here...

Murray has a habit of trading our beloved prospects/players like Rundblad and Foligno, which only becomes clear in hindsight. Does anyone think he'd be up to trade Silfverberg/Zibanejad/Wiercioch?

Well Howson has improved imo. They got fair value (I think) for a player that is overpaid and demanded a trade in Nash.

Their team has improved a little this year, and they have good depth and prospects at every position. They do lack high end talent though, but they have Murray on the way next year

Theyve also got 3 first rounders this year... If they finish in the bottom 3 they should get some high end talent...

Pretty similar to Cowen. Probably not as much upside but he could play in our top 4 now. More polished than our current young D and replaces Cowen until he's recovered.

How is a guy who's 6'2" and 190 lbs and a -22 last year similar to the 6'5", 230 lb Cowen? I get it that he's maybe a somewhat fiesty kid with some stay-at-home abilities. But there seems to be an awful big difference in physical attributes there. And what would guarantee him a spot in our top 4? If Minny is scratching him then I'm a little worried. Even if he is only 22.

I think I'd rather play Wiercioch or Benoit or Lundin or even Boro. Doesn't cost me a thing and I'm guessing I'll be icing an equal or better player. And Scandella's a left-hand shot. Got a lot of those. I do like the fact that this is a young player who's a little off-the-board and perhaps undervalued. But it still seems like a lateral move. A trade for trading's sake.

Does he have similar mobility and physicality to Cowen? We could use another physical blueliner as long as they have good mobility and can actually handle the puck.

apparently 2 Ottawa scouts were spotted during the SJ-CLB broadcast..

Two? Well that is a start. Have to think San Jose wants to switch some things up. Maybe we are making a push for Brassard, can be a temporary second line center and we can transition him to 3rd line center or a companion to Turris on the 2nd line

Carter trade to LA. They had the option of taking the 30th overall last draft or using LA's 2013 1st. Looking like a smart move.

Ahh yes, true. Well, the Jackets need all the help they can get, so having 3 first rounders will help them.

Everyone said the same about Methot, now look at him...

I think they got hosed bad by the Rangers, but that is Nash's fault for keeping his list of teams short. IMO Columbus should have held on to him longer, Nash is and would have been classy enough to make it work. But I guess that is neither here nor there now.

I like the Setoguchi idea that has been thrown around here, he would be a cheap pickup since his play has declined plus I think he would fit in well with Maclean's style of coaching.

Artem Anisimov is looking electric out there, just not getting much help. Dubinsky is picking up momentum. Erixon has NHL upside. First round pick, all of these things are pretty good assets. This trade isn't going to look that bad for Columbus. Also, think of the Nash contract.

What? No they didn't? What are you talking about? The supposed knock on Methot was that he wasn't going to be a good partner for Erik Karlsson because he might be too lumbering and lacked the offensive instincts to compliment EK.

But, to my knowledge, Methot has been 6'3" and 230 lbs for some time now. He has an extensive body of work as a defensive defenseman. There was very little question that he was at least a top-4 defender and possibly top-2. He was and is in the prime of his career.

All I was saying is that Scandella looks like a guy who may not even crack our top-6 let alone have some automatic reservation in our top-4. So, in that case, what's the point? We already have plenty of left-shooting 6th/7th/8th d-men in the system. If we can get the kid for a song then no problem. But if we have to give up something significant for him then again I ask what's the point? I think in the very least it's safe to say he isn't a Cowen replacement. If he was he'd be a regular in Minny's lineup let alone ours.

good game to see him. based on that though his price would be too high. methot+

Methot and Filatov should do...

On a more serious note, I'd be open to bringing in Brassard, depending on the price. He would likely cost a good asset or two, but if he can play wing in addition to centre (based on what I've read around here) that makes him all the more attractive in my opinion. He could fill in the 2C role while Spezza is out then slide over to the left of Turris when Spezza comes back.
