Fistric is 5x the stay at home dman Bickel is... saying he's not an upgrade is delusional. 5x is an exaggeration, but Fistric is much better.

Fistric goes out of his way to make huge hits, often times abandoning his coverage to do so. At least Bickel makes an effort to play defense.

He may go out of his way to make big hits, but he's a much better defender than Bickel, who despite his apparently better effort at defense, is a liability that can't be given significant minutes. Fistric has been an NHL regular for years and is the same age as Bickel. He racks up tons of hits, plays tough, blocks shots and is capable of playing more than 10 minutes a night and can be relied upon to do so. If it had been Fistric on the roster in the playoffs the night G and McD played over 50 minutes a piece, you can guarantee he would have seen 3x more ice than Bickel. He's an a whole other level. Bickel is a #7 d-man. Fistric is a reliable #5 physical stay at home, which actually fits our needs nicely for the bottom pairing. Moot point as he's been dealt already, but it's outrageous to think he's not an upgrade over Bickel. He hits more, blocks more and has 5 times the NHL experience. That alone makes him more valuable. Fistric averages over 14 minutes ES and 2 minutes PK per game. Bickel averaged less than 10:30 total last season. We need a guy with experience who can provide more solid minutes. Fistric is less of a liability. For a third, he would have been a great pick up.

Douglas Murray for Arron Asham, NYR 2013 3rd and Peter Ceresnak
San Jose wants grit with playing ability in their bottom 6 now apparently but have surplus on D
Murray is UFA at the end of the year, plays right D and would be a fan favourite in The Garden perfectly fitting the #6 spot

Then move one of our surplus D (Eminger, Gilroy or Bickel) for a similar pick as the market for D is good now. Or put one of them in CT
Sign Sykora for $1M on a one year deal
Promote Haley to fill Ashams spot
Sign a D (if we do a trade), a reliable AHL fwd and eventually a goon for CT

If it only were this easy :naughty:

I dont think Bickel is nearly as bad as some on this board make him out to be. Guy only has 1 NHL season under his belt so far. Fistric has 5.

I dont think anyone should count Bickel out just yet.

To each their own, but I think Bickel gets an unwarranted reputation around here. There was a 8 or 10 game stretch in there where he was logging big minutes and didn't seem out of place at all. In fact, I think he may have sniffed 20 minutes on a couple nights. He had a rough patch to end the season and lost Tortorella's trust heading into the playoffs. It happens. It was Sather's fault for not thinking ahead and shoring up the defense before the trade deadline.

You said it yourself. Fistric has 5x the NHL experience and is only averaging 4 minutes a night more than an NHL rookie in Bickel. I wouldn't ice Fistric over Eminger, and I'd think twice about giving him time ahead of Bickel. That's just my 2 cents.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I think Eminger would give us at max a 4th rounder, whereas Gilroy probably at max a 5th. Weren't there plenty of teams after Bickel during the FA frenzy? If so, maybe he could be a piece to work with. :D

He's averaging 6 minutes more a night but, like you said, to each their own. Fistric is an NHL regular 6 years running this year. Eminger/Bickel are spare parts. There's usually a reason for that. Fistric is a steady, full-time bottom pairing NHL caliber d-man. The others are 6/7 at best.

I'd give up a 3rd rounder (we have like 3 of em) for Douglas Murray. Perfect guy to replace Sauer as the #6. He's also a right handed d-man.

Murray is a lefty but I would still take him in a heartbeat for our bottom pair. He's perfect (except for his handedness). I would do a third plus Asham (if they would want him) or a third + a middle prospect. I'd pay a decent price actually as long as it didn't effect the standing roster too much. Decent relative to his rental status, that is. Although, not that I'd really think about bringing him back, but if he'd re-sign really cheap, he would make a great mentor for McIlrath, though I have no idea where he would fit (pretty much wouldn't).

Yeah

But a downgrade on the pick does not make or break the deal IMO. Even more ideal (especially for next year) would be to replace Asham in the deal with Mike Rupp. Murray and Rupp are probably on the same level when it comes to enforcing/fighting heavyweights. Actually, I think Murray is the better fighter. Rupp would fill a need in San Jose.
Team toughness (that can play hockey - mostly) would be retained with one of Asham/Rupp, Murray, Bickel and Haley on the team. Along with gritty character guys like Cally, Pyatt, Boyle, Kreider and Eminger. And lots of skill!

Icing this team (please do not stare at the lines as they will be juggled anyways) would be awesome IMO.

FORWARDS
Rick Nash ($7.800m) / Brad Richards ($6.667m) / Petr Sykora ($1.000m)
Chris Kreider ($1.325m) / Derek Stepan ($0.875m) / Marian Gaborik ($7.500m)
Carl Hagelin ($0.875m) / Brian Boyle ($1.700m) / Ryan Callahan ($4.275m)
Mike Rupp ($1.500m) or Arron Asham ($1.000m) / Jeff Halpern ($0.700m) / Taylor Pyatt ($1.550m)
Micheal Haley ($0.600m)

DEFENSEMEN
Ryan McDonagh ($1.300m) / Dan Girardi ($3.325m)
Marc Staal ($3.975m) / Anton Stralman ($1.700m)
Michael Del Zotto ($2.550m) / Douglas Murray ($2.500m)
Steve Eminger ($0.750m) / Stu Bickel ($0.750m)

GOALTENDERS
Henrik Lundqvist ($6.875m)
Martin Biron ($1.300m)

BUYOUTS
Chris Drury ($1.667m)

LTIR
Michael Sauer ($1.250m)

STORED IN RUBBER ROOM WITH BUBBLEWRAP
Wade Redden ($5.600m)
------
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS
(these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $70,200,000
CAP PAYROLL: $69,908,334
BONUSES: $1,250,000
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $1,541,666 ($0.500m more if Rupp were traded)
LTIR (Sauer): ($1.250m)
DEAD MONEY (Redden & Drury): ($8.167m)

Remember that the prorated factor at the deadline is a whopping 4,125 TIMES the annual caphit. Meaning $1,5M in annual hit gives one the possibility of taking on over $6M then

He plays right side too

Most D-men do. He's still left handed. Nobody saying we don't want him for that reason, but ideally we'd want a RH version of him. Being RH and being able to play on the right are not the same thing. Any d-man can play the right side; some teams carry five LH d-men. It's not a big deal, but ideally, we'd want another RH. That's all.

Yandle? I don't want him in this division unless Philly parts with something substantial, like Schenn/Couturier.

Or Giroux. :sarcasm:

I'm pretty sure Yandle is not available. I think I read that on spectorshockey.net which cited a news article from today. And I doubt Schenn is available since they just acquired his brother. And PHI has been very resistant on moving Courturier.

With all the trade rumors about Yandle last year, you never know.

And Philly moving Schenn/Couturier for him is a longshot, considering they wouldn't move them for Shea freakin Weber. I just hope that it's a big piece, not the obligatory Matt Read + 2nd, which is basically every Flyers proposal on the board.

Read+2nd for Rundblad.

Works and fits a need for both. I honestly wouldn't be surprised.

Why is Philly adding to Read? Rundblad is unproven, while Read is coming off a 20+ goal season as a rookie.

I think it would be Rundblad/pick for Read if anything.

That said, I think it could be something around Schenn+ for Yandle. I don't know what the Coyotes would think of that, but it's rumoured that their GM is looking for a "2nd line scoring center", and Schenn could definitely be that player...but, I don't know if Maloney would trade Yandle for potential. Maybe if he's really desperate for a talented offensive center.

They are not going to trade Schenn. It would create a bad atmosphere after they just acquired his older brother.

99% of the time you are right but we said the same about Tim Erixon. Business is business. And as far as Cotourier, same stuff was said about Richards, Carter and JVR at times. LA said it about Schenn and Simmonds. All about who is available... if two unavailable guys meet, a trade can happen.
