Florida, Vegas and Dallas are the 3 front runners for Rantanen, per Chris Johnston. Of course lmao.
I'm actually ok with that. The assets that it would take to get Rantanen then huge contract for a soon to be 30+ year player probably isn't the best use of resources. The Oilers would still have a big weakness on defense and in goal and no assets and no cap space for the next few years at least to add any quality there. Plus, he's been shit away from MacKinnon, do the Oilers really need to pay franchise money to a McDrai passenger?

Of course it would suck to see him go to a rival so there's that.

He would be our 3rd best forward.

And who are we kidding, this team isn’t addressing goal or top 6 wingers or defence.

If Pickard can go too, and they can eat 50% on Allen, whatever fine.

I think the team, though, isn't eager to flip their 1st.
I don’t think management thinks this team can win anything so they are going to stand pat. And the Frederic move was just one to appease the fan base.

This team has bigger issues than depth players. We could fill a whole other roster with them.
Again, it's not the player they acquired, it's the fact that Florida's GM, not satisfied with winning the Stanley Cup last year, is making trades and ours probably hasn't even figured out which end of the phone you're supposed to talk into.

This year couldn't have went any worse, strategy wise for management. There's so many teams still in the playoff hunt that no one good is really available, they went all in with their cap on July 1 for underperforming players and their strategy to not match the offer sheets to accrue cap has backfired big time.

I'm still holding out hope that we end up with that mystery player that no one expected to be traded.

Can't really have an honest discussion with someone who thinks the season's over before the trade deadline is.

With the Max Jones add, maybe they're trying to London Knight their way out of this.

You've got Bouch. They added Regula and Jones. We're just a Josh Anderson, Mike McCarron and Jarred Tinordi away now.

I think it’s the opposite. Management thinks the team is better than it is. Just a little slide lately. Nothing to worry about.
I disagree. If they did they would go all in.
They are a worse team than Florida this year, even at their best and Florida has spent an entire week improving and are STILL looking to add Ranatanen.

Stupid management no matter what.

Management thinks the team is good. Despite the recent board freak out they're correct.

They'd like to do more than they're doing but they hamstrung themselves with extremely questionable cap management.
