Have to trade Jeff Skinner

the coach hates him so much
How many minutes did he even get with McDavid this year? It's insane how he's been handled. I don't care how bad of a fit he is, the guy scored 20 last year, you throw him in the top six for 20 games and see how he does.

If I remember correctly, he lasted like 3 games in the top six at the start of the season?

For all the fretting about the depth and this and that up front - if Kane joins Frederic in the lineup that is a pretty significant shift to the good for this lineup, even if Kane is only comparable to last year (I'm optimistic he'll be better than a lot think). Especially when they will replace any of the useless slog of Podkolzin, Arvidsson, Janmark, Kapanen, Skinner, Brown, etc, etc.

I don't understand how some can sit here lamenting how small, soft, and useless the forward group is, only to also want Kane gone and are mad at the Frederic pickup.
I mean what you’re saying isn’t wrong but they need to make more moves. Standing pat potentially after only getting Frederic and Jones would be an F tier deadline

The issue is the “big size we have” is a guy who missed an entire season who will be trying to immediately jump in…a guy who hasn’t even taken a skate yet.
And the other guy is someone who we traded for that best case will have 8-10 games with us to find chemistry and learn the systems before the playoffs. A guy who has been known to lose his physicality in the playoffs.

This has happened, this is a Sharks beat guy

I’m guessing Florida, Dallas or Vegas.

Feels like Vancouver because they were looking to move Suter.

Nevermind, to FLA for nearly free.

I don't disagree, I just think that these players have been dismissed as irrelevant or not needle movers. For this group that is very comfortable to just plod along and wait to see what the opposition will do next, adding two guys that play like they do is a material addition to the good.

Definitely doesn't mean the goaltending and D are just ok and we can stand pat.

That's a weird trade for the Devils.
If the Oilers lost McDavid for the year, I sure as hell aren't trading a 2nd+prospect for an old rental.
Maybe Hughes coming back sooner? Easier to say he'll be ready for next season than to say ready for the playoffs

Because they see him as the league does (or has) a depth defenseman. He might be a better player than that, but Winnipeg & Montreal both treated him as just a random depth guy.
Forsling was waiver wire fodder too until he broke through, and I don't think anyone who has caught a decent number of Devils games hasn't seen how much his game particularly defensively has improved.

It's also not like people aren't aware the NJD has been deploying him like a 2nd pairing d-man all season in terms of mins and role and even in MTL he was getting some pretty decent mins for a 3rd pairing d-man, essentially Kulak level mins and retained a positive plus/minus on a bad team.

I think they want to re-sign Dumoulin as veteran depth defenseman, I'm pretty sure Hughes is getting surgery and is just out.

So I agree with you, I'm just suggesting he's still viewed as that guy, so it's a chance for the Oilers to maybe find a player that others are over looking
