There is no progress in talks regarding potential contract extensions for pending unrestricted free agents Girardi and Ryan Callahan, with wide gulfs existing between the Rangers and both players.

Pending restricted free agent Mats Zuccarello, who scored twice on Sunday to boost his total to 15 goals, is in line for a massive arbitration pay hike over his current $1.15 million contract. Zuccarello would become eligible for 2015 unrestricted free agency if he were to go through salary arbitration.

The Rangers aren't close to signing either player. That only changes if the Rangers give in. Again.
 
Time is running short, 5 games before the Olympics, then 3 games before the deadline when they come back, your move Sather.
 
Sather will do nothing, wait till the season is over, then sign them both to 7 year, 7 million contracts.

It's just so obvious at this point.

Not saying that. It will be very expensive. When it was brought up a few weeks ago that Zuccarello will cost $3.5M or probably more in a long-term deal,some people said it was too much. Zuccarello plays in every situation. He is 2nd on the team in scoring. Leads the team in goals. Shootout king. Newport will point out the improvement in the PP. Look at his season. Arbitration eligible. One year away from group III. Newport has a very strong arbitration case. Look at the other players which need contracts. On this board its keep everyone. My point is there isn't enough money to keep everyone. According to many people,there is no way the Rangers can survive without Callahan and Girardi. Keep Richards or replace Richards with another $7M center. It will cost so much money to keep the team together when its not even a Cup contending team. That's my point. According to Brooks,the Rangers aren't in the same ball park with Girardi and Callahan.

Well that makes more sense.

Zuccarello is easily the player we need to sign the most in my mind as opposed to Callahan and/or Girardi.

This isn't really relevant as I agree with you, but accuracy is important.

Something around Callahan and Staal/Girardi for O'Reilly + makes me very happy. If not, I am not helping them out.

Im guessing Callahan and Girardi both want north of 6 million. Girardi I would seriously consider it for. I wouldn't give Callahan a dime over 5. I wouldn't be the least bit upset if we lost Callahan for unreasonable contract demands like 6 million++

Give Zucc a 4 x 4 deal. Buy out Richards, let Callahan walk and throw 6+ million at Stastny.
 
There has to be an emerging young center with skill and speed available somewhere, right? Please, yes...
