only if MB can pick up some winger depth; as much as i want Gio traded, only want him traded if it's for getting/making cap space for serious upgrade on the wing, skill wise.

Really not looking forward to the point in the season where Parros is used to "energize" one of top two lines ala laraque...

Two words...Kyle Clifford...;)

Klesla becomes the 4th best defenseman on the habs roster. Who cares about the number of D. The more nhl ready D in the system, the better. If drew gets picked up off waivers, so be it
We must not be talking about the same player here. Klesla is a bigger, younger, less physical Bouillon.

Absolutely no way. Gionta is a 25-30 goals' scorer since signing in Montreal and he's the team captain. Further, he only has one year left to his contract. In addition, Montreal has Subban, Markov, Diaz, Gorges, Bouillon, Tinordi, Drewiske and Emelin on defense right now. Thanks but no thanks.

He would be second on the team in blocked shots (Klesla if he played in MTL last year gaining the same stats). He also doesn't have a lot of giveaways.

Gionta is on the downside of his career and it is clear that he can be replaced. We can't really talk too much about Giontas stats because last season he was only a little below his goal production (0.3 g/g compared to 10-11 at .35 g/g). Considering he is now a year older and dealing with another injury, I think moving him is a good idea.

This too. He is clearly above Bouillon, Tinordi and Drewiske. With Emelin missing some time, sure is better to have more D capable of playing in the NHL.

i want top 6 winger depth, we have plenty of bottom 6 winger depth..

Right now we have 5, including Briere. wingers ready to play wing. we lose gio, we are down to 4... clifford is no top 6 winger, nor can we depend on him signing with us anyways..

What i mean by upgrade if Gio is gone, is that we need to get a legitimate top 6 winger.

So what would our line-up look like?

Max Pacioretty - David Desharnais - Danny Briere
Alex Galchenyuk - Lars Eller - Brendan Gallagher
Rene Bourque - Tomas Plekanec - Brandon Prust/Louis Leblanc(?)
Travis Moen - Ryan White - Gabriel Dumont/George Parros

Josh Gorges - PK Subban
Andrei Markov - Rotislav Klesla
Jarred Tinordi - Raphael Diaz
Francis Bouillon

Oh, but I seriously doubt gionta waives his NTC to go to a dump like Phoenix.

Nice. Global Mod, eh? I'd report you, but you'd probably be the one who received the report! Haha. :)

Pointless flaming aside, he'd be virtually guaranteed first line ice time, and Mike Ribeiro as a center. Not to mention first unit PP time. That won't hurt the stats. In a contract year, that's not nothing. If he wants to go back east after one year, so be it. Might as well hit the open market after padding his stats a bit with choice ice-time.

Patches, Briere, Bourque, Gallagher, Galchenyuk...there's five without Gionta...if Galchenyuk is playing centre, Desharnais will be on wing or traded for a winger...plus Clifford is a 3rd line guy we can sign...it'll work...;)

I like the D pairings, I might switch up the forwards a bit.

Pacioretty-Desharnais-Gallagher
Bourque-Plekanec-Briere
Galchenyuk-Eller-Prust
Moen-White-Parros
Dumont/Leblanc as 13th

The retained salary is a key for the Coyotes. I don't think they'd like to pay Gionta's salary for next season. Gionta could fill a hole if Phoenix really is looking for a veteran presence on the wing. Other than this, one would think that Klesla could return someone better than Gionta.

Bergevin should accept this deal easily, IMO.

Gionta will be playing for a contract this year... and this will be his one shot to secure another year or three with a 5-mil salary. I think he will have a good year if his arm doesn't fall off. I like Gionta. Not interested.

I would trade Pleks... need I remind everybody I don't like Pleks and we aren't winning squat with him :D

Plus he has more value so we should get more back.

Need wingers. Sign clifford im all for it. Still our top 6 wing depth looks weak, having two natural centers playing wing.... And thats with 0 injuries...

This is not a bad deal at all, but some people really need to reign in their obsession with trading Gionta/DD. Offensive depth is very valuable even if the players are small.
