Yotes fan coming in peace. Reposting a trade from the main board that I think would fit both sides's needs nicely:

To PHX: Brian Gionta with 2M salary retained
To MTL: Rostislav Klesla, 2014 3rd, 2015 5th

Yotes get a veteran scoring winger to pair with Ribiero, while the Habs get a veteran, physical shutdown defenseman that can play either side. Draft picks are a sweetener to ensure the trade remains salary neutral (absolutely necessary for us).

Thoughts?

I don't see it happening, but I think I would be ok with this. Gionta can still put up good numbers, but I do not believe he will be kept beyond next season.

Klesla would be an upgrade for our top 4, with Emelin out. He is also a UFA at seasons end, the picks make it very interesting.

Well, that was easy, lol. Know Gionta's NTC is a complicating issue, but the Yotes ownership has been settled (for now at least) and he'd be getting top line + PP time with Ribiero. Hopefully that'd be enough to waive.

Thanks all!

I would do this deal since it ACTUALLY fills a need rather than just obsessing over the lack of size in our line-up (see whoever proposed Steve Bernier for Gionta).

Make the CALL dude..

I will personally drive Gionta to the closest Uniprix and ship him to Phoenix.

Absolutely no way. Gionta is a 25-30 goals' scorer since signing in Montreal and he's the team captain. Further, he only has one year left to his contract. In addition, Montreal has Subban, Markov, Diaz, Gorges, Bouillon, Tinordi, Drewiske and Emelin on defense right now. Thanks but no thanks.

Nice proposal. Like others have pointed out, the issue is the NTC... nothing against Phoenix, but Gionta has spent his whole life in the northeast part of the continent and his family is here, I'd bet against him waiving... but, who knows, maybe he's sick of winter?

Klesla becomes the 4th best defenseman on the habs roster. Who cares about the number of D. The more nhl ready D in the system, the better. If drew gets picked up off waivers, so be it
